Don’t ask a question you can’t handle the answer to. Not everyone sees the world the same way as you.
So if Earl answered the way Opal wants then he lies to her, and she goes on believing in a lie. If Earl tells her the truth, then it causes a fight, but at least he was honest with himself and her.
How did these two even fall in love in the first place? And who ever said that “Two drops is an ocean” thing? Was it even supposed to be a romantic quip?
This strip used to be fun…now it’s like watching a dysfunctional couple be, well dysfunctional. If they dropped Earl and just had Opal, cat, dog and grandson it would be ok. As it is, I’m done.
I first saw this strip several years ago and it’s lived on the refrigerator ever since. “Why do I talk to you?” is my shorthand for “you can stop mansplaining now.”
I’m with Earl on this. Opal should have stopped after saying “ we are a good team”. Her drip statement is just moronic, even though I see what she is trying to say.
Maybe, Opal, you talk to Earl so he can bring you back to Earth after you say crazy things.

Hence an expert is an unknown drip under pressure

Earl thinks he’s the household philosopher, so he didn’t appreciate Opal horning in on his turf.

Because you are a good team. Just don’t double dribble on the basketball court.

Same ways what Earl speaks makes sense, as an ocean is a larger body of water that be a community, instead of couple.

Earl and Opal don’t really have a dialogue, it’s more like a monologue.
