Believe it or not, the colors were reversed at one time. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_states_and_blue_states#:~:text=The%20map%20was%20placed%20in%20the%20network’s%20election%2Dnight%20news%20studio.&text=Since%20the%201984%20election%2C%20CBS,1980%2C%201984%2C%20and%201988.

Because the colour assignation was designed by men (for the purpose of coding within media charts). If it was designed by women, potentially we could have parties represented by the millions of ‘fake colours’ like cream, eggshell, ivory, Navajo white, and vanilla. Just saying, ROYGBIV was good enough.

I cannot dispute BD’s analysis of the color’s meanings and associations. Maybe he should be remarking on their appropriateness for each political party.

They just chose some patriotic colors for the TV election maps and used to cycle them, but they got stuck at what we have now around the 2000 elections.

In Canada it’s the opposite: the Liberal Party is red, the Conservative Party is blue. Then there’s the New Democratic Party (orange), the Bloc Quebecois (light blue) and the Green Party (green).

Outside masks, especially in the winter, are a “two fer”. You get a bit of extra filtration of the cold air going into the respiratory system as well as any micro particles, and you don’t have to be concerned about any sudden encounters with the oblivious or other maskless “freedom fighters”.

It certainly does not do any harm to anyone to be overly cautious. For some reason the knuckle walkers are bothered by the fact that you have the freedom to do something that they do not want to do.

When they do their versions of “Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” I certainly would not mind obliging them since they are giving me the choice. Maybe I should have them sign a waiver and agreement first to avoid repercussions.

The color assignments are rather arbitrary. But when the three major networks, ABC, NBC, and CBS, coordinated the color scheme it did make it easier for the viewers. Still other colors would work just as well. Say Orange (guess which party) and Green. Well maybe not green, that could cause problems if the station is using green screen technology.

It started in 2000. Originally the Big Three news networks would change it every election. Dems would be red one cycle and then blue the next. But because of the long drawn out process in 2000 [when the Dems were blue] the ‘Red/Blue’ stuck.

If you watch the movie “The Guns of Navarone,” you might pay attention to Anthony Quinn’s colour scheme. He does the exact same trick as here, gradually shifting the colours of his clothing from blueish gray to red, to depict the increasingly agitated state of his character.

Before the 2000 election there was a lot of inconsistency but more often than not blue was assigned to Republicans. When the color associations were too entrenched to change after 2000, Republicans were not happy. They preferred blue because it had more of a look of gravitas and liked red for the Democratic Party because it had a subtle communist association.

One died, one is in ICU, 3 were in the hospital. These are mostly in the Midwest region. Most were in Missouri and 1 was in Wyoming, 1 in Kansas.

Maybe this was mentioned earlier….I entered the US Armed Forces in 1976. Then, and now, blue denoted allies in the war games and red was assigned to the enemy. that never varied. Purple signify the joint forces of the US military working together. I’ve always wondered why the GOP chose (so I thought) the color of our military enemies.

Political colors: Red and blue represent only two of the USA colors. White is not PC.

    Red: Conservative.

    Orange: Trumpeters.

Yellow: (No party would ever touch that)

    Green: Sustainable life!

Blue: Power from the people, to the people

Purple: Freedom from an oppressive government

Big 3 networks did it. In fact they used to mostly use red for the Dems, up until the late 90’s or so.

Look it up. I have my own theory about why, but I doubt anyone at any of the networks will reveal how and why they all “independently” decided to unburden the Dem party from its usual association with red.
