Hmmm. I’m kinda on both sides here. Luann had no trouble teasing Bernice about her dreams when she overheard it, but now that Luann is getting inquired herself, she’s getting pretty aggressive while hardly being poked. I know this is more serious than Bernice’s dreams, but I kinda feel like Luann is taking her savior complex over Tara and being aggressive with Bernice since Bernice “got [Tara] kicked out”. Like, Bernice should back off trying to pry given she KNOWS how upsetting it can be for the receiving end, but Luann doesn’t have to get so snippy so quickly. I think the girls just aren’t compatible as roommates; too many strips since Bernice moved in have been about them struggling to communicate and getting frustrated with each other and it seems like there’s more stressing times than good/heartfelt…
So we end the week with a return to the original scene of the crime. Luann continues with her deceptive behavior re Bernice. Bernice is is displaying some frustration with it all. It is interesting that Luann makes a hurtful comment about Bernice acting like an R.A. Bernice reminds Luann they have been and are BFF’s.
This is a dangerous confrontation that could spiral out of control! I wonder if GnK will go there; Luann and Bernice have had their falling outs in the past. Or will they blow it off with each apologizing profusely, blah, blah, blah.
The kernel of the problem is the deception around Tara. Luann is risky-frisky-ing into damager relationships with not only Bernice, but also with her parents and responsible staff at the fuse. And I doubt if Brad and Toni would think much of this gambit.
While Bernice is not everyone’s favorite character, some blaming her behavior last week as reason to dislike her more, nevertheless, it’s Luann’s behavior that, to me at least, is the most annoying.
Of course, we know what Bernice doesn’t know.
And, in Bernice’s defense, Luann did indeed not take a dog to the dog park, another plausible indicator (to Bernice) that Luann is lying.
And lying to your best friend is the best way to lose a best friend.
So Bern knows someone was in the room, she just thinks it was Jack and not Tara. Luann had a good laugh at Bern’s expense by putting her into a “frothy snit” but now does not like the third degree but what does she expect. Bern is pretty nosy and thinks a guy spent the night with Luann but Luann really needs to tell Bern to mind her own business if she does not want to spill the beans on Tara. Bern may end up getting the last laugh when (not if) Tara gets caught and it is found out that squatting in the Fuse storage room was Luann’s idea. Until then I think BFF will be on rocky status between these 2. Onto the next arc and I guess we will revisit this situation in a few weeks.
Bernice has never been a very good friend. She just sits there and snarks while Lu unloads about everything in her life. A real BFF would be supportive.

And wait until she finds out about the secret! Hey trolls will have a field day with this arc set, those of us who love this comic will also, so let’s sit back and enjoy it, keeping in mind that in the end hilarity shall ensue

3 – She continues “Here’s your coat. Go back out the window.”
4 – Then there’s a noise; a “bump.”
5 – Luann says “SHHH! (emphasis in original) “ We don’t want to wake Bernice.”
Bernice knows or rationally suspects that there was someone in Luann’s room that night besides Puddles. The “someone” slept in the room since the alarm woke both. The “someone” came in through the window late, probably after Bernice was asleep and is exiting early the same way, hopefully before Bernice awakens. And Luann is trying to specifically keep the knowledge from Bernice.
Comment #5 makes it personal to Bernice. Luann could have said “We don’t want to wake the whole house.”
Apparently overhearing things through the walls and discussing them the next day is fair game in the DeGroot household given Luann’s teasing in the Jack dream strips.
The current behavior between the two is not beyond the pale for the two BFF’s. Over the years Luann and Bernice have exhibited curiosity, jealousy and even hostility toward one another yet remain BFF’s when all is said and done. In fact, this week’s Luann Againn has Bernice being jealous of Luann callously snubbing her at school lunches for Aaron Hill. By the end of the week all is well.
Commenters have chided GnK for not giving Luann a major arc of her own. Well, here it is folks. Enjoy the ride.
Luann wouldn’t be so defensive if she didn’t know she was in the wrong. She is right, though. This isn’t the dorm, and Bernice isn’t the RA. So Bernice needs to back off. Two quick points.1. It’s never a good policy to lie to anyone.2. If you know someone is lying to you, it’s never a good idea to call them on it when the timing is poor. Since Bern knows Luann is full of it, Bern should have kept her mouth shut and just wait things out until Luann knows the timing is appropriate.
They are in “Greg’s” World – in the REAL World Bernice would be seen as being extremely nosy at the age they are at, especially when Luann invited her to live there, she should be thankful and not a nosy body – Luann or anyone else, is not bound to tell there best friend everything in the real world – sometimes someone else asks you to keep something to yourself and you do , but we are living in Greg’s world here, so never know what is going to happen
What Luann is doing for Tara is completely stupid, even if it’s coming from a good place. What Bernice is doing is completely offensive. And it’s coming from a controlling, obnoxious bad place. BFFs don’t put a glass to the door to listen in on things they aren’t privy to. BFFs don’t play Grand Inquisitor. It would be a twist if Tara DOESN’T do anything criminal and doesn’t get caught, because we are all expecting the worst.
A couple of thoughts: 1. Bernice has no right, as a “friend”, to interrogate Luann about anything. And that would be true even if she were paying rent. 2. Luann’s saying “PO’d” instead of the full words is helping the joke Greg is making, of initials being used. 3. It’s obvious to me that Bernice is in “interrogation mode” even before she says a word – look at her standing with her arms crossed looking like she’s ready for a fight.4. Letting someone think something incorrect is not a “lie.” Bern dreamed up the Jack theory herself, so it’s on her if she suffers from it. Even telling a lie, as long as it’s not harmful to anyone, if it’s about something that’s nobody else’s business, is okay.
For me, no one in this story has done anything as bad as Luanns incredibly stupid, inconsiderate, selfish, irresponsible, self absorbed and rude actions. Bernice knows something is really wrong. Puddles knows Luann went to the dog park without him (the shoe smells tell them everything). No one has done anything that is worse than giving someone the keys to your parents business. I hope she gets caught.

What Luann is doing for Tara is completely stupid, even if it’s coming from a good place. What Bernice is doing is completely offensive. And it’s coming from a controlling, obnoxious bad place. BFFs don’t put a glass to the door to listen in on things they aren’t privy to. BFFs don’t play Grand Inquisitor. It would be a twist if Tara DOESN’T do anything criminal and doesn’t get caught, because we are all expecting the worst.

A couple of thoughts: 1. Bernice has no right, as a “friend”, to interrogate Luann about anything. And that would be true even if she were paying rent. 2. Luann’s saying “PO’d” instead of the full words is helping the joke Greg is making, of initials being used. 3. It’s obvious to me that Bernice is in “interrogation mode” even before she says a word – look at her standing with her arms crossed looking like she’s ready for a fight.4. Letting someone think something incorrect is not a “lie.” Bern dreamed up the Jack theory herself, so it’s on her if she suffers from it. Even telling a lie, as long as it’s not harmful to anyone, if it’s about something that’s nobody else’s business, is okay.

For me, no one in this story has done anything as bad as Luanns incredibly stupid, inconsiderate, selfish, irresponsible, self absorbed and rude actions. Bernice knows something is really wrong. Puddles knows Luann went to the dog park without him (the shoe smells tell them everything). No one has done anything that is worse than giving someone the keys to your parents business. I hope she gets caught.
