Even in this age of jet travel, we still rely on trains for much of our transportation needs. However, they often (even in The United States) run on time…

A train is just leaving the station when a young man comes running up, throws his valise inside, and jumps aboard just in time. As he stands in the doorway, huffing and puffing, trying to catch his breath, and older man who had been watching says to him, “Youngster, you’re out of shape! When I was your age, I could have run to this train and jumped aboard without breaking a sweat.”

“That may be, old man,” the youth replies. “But I’ve been chasing this train since the last station!”

Fact check on RBIoN: Norma Jean Mortenson was named the first honorary Artichoke Queen in 1948, but the Artichoke Festival didn’t actually start until 1959.

Elephants might gain time to adapt if they could shoot back.

Narrow mindedness, and prejudice killed even in that day. So, I guess Socrates died smiling. But that might have been because he could see what was ahead for civilization as he knew it.

Too bad modern flight consists mostly of noise and air pollution.

Marilyn Monroe – a beautiful, badly misused young woman and talent. But that’s Hollywood all the way. Use ‘em up and dump ’em, there’s always another sucker out there.

Question: how is it the google news section on entertainment, which is mostly about egos, idiocy, jealousy, and the Kardashians, is the same length as politics, science, world affairs, and business? Except for excessive budgets for truly mediocre output, movies advertise lots of mayhem, cruelty, and lousy relationships, but no longer seem to add much value to society.

Ok. Ok. I get it. But I grew up in the 1940’s and lived through the eras of the best-trained actors and best written films ever made. With few exceptions, the variety and quality since the late 20th century have never matched that.

The poor elephants. Those evil poachers deserve to be executed in cruel ways.

Not buying the evolutionary loss of tusks in response to poaching. Evolutionary changes like that would take much longer than the several-hundred-years that elephants have been commercially exploited to a threatening degree.

I find it interesting that RBION said that “Owl feathers are designed for near silent flight”. If they are “designed” would that not imply that there is a designer? Who would that designer be?

And to further your point, African elephants once had a migratory range that expansed several countries (pre colonial). Today, highways, railroads and national boarders have severely restricted their movements. I would imagine, now more than ever they need their tusks to compete for limited resources at their disposal.

The big problem here is a male elephant without tusks would be at a big disadvantage when competing for mates with male elephants who had tusks. Consequently, it would be hard for him to pass on his tusk free genes to future generations.

    Nice artichokes.

Failed, facelifts would have to wait another 2,000 years.

When asked about their stealth capabilities the owl said “Who?”

The other night at about 3 A.M. I adopted an African Elephant with tusks.
