When I turned 35, my doctor told me I was young. When I turned 45, my doctor told me I was a mature adult. When I turned 55, my doctor told me I was middle-aged. HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO LIVE TO SATISFY MEDICAL SCIENCE, DANGIT?!
Truth of the matter is, whether we want to or not, it is not our choice. As they have said, live each day as it is your last, because you never know, it could be.
Posterity? What posterity, apart from Nelson, who’s a loving and loyal pal? His mom, maybe, who’s never been the least bit annoying? Any other children?
My own dad lived only age 79, his dad less, my Grandma lived age 92, my mom outlived all age 92. I hope live older then age 92. If not I know where I will be going.
Earl, you son of a gun: as far as Opal is aware, you have only ONE child, Sylvia, and ONE grandchild, Nelson. What other progeny do you have wom Opal doesn’t know about?
My mother keeps expecting to die because someone else died at her current age. She’s running out of examples of why she should die. Maybe eventually she will give up on giving up.
The women on our father’s side live to be in at least their 90s; there have been a few that lived to 105. However, the men tend to pass in their 60s to 70s. On our mother’s side, both the men and women tend to pass in their 60s. I take after my father’s side, while my brother tends to take after our mother’s side. There are no other children in our immediate family.
Dad, at 94, has lived longer than anyone else in his family. While his body isn’t working like it used to, his mind is still sharp. He emphatically states that he hasn’t gotten old yet, just older. Mom will be 92 in eight days. It’s sad to see Alzheimer’s taking its toll on her. She remembers her birthdate, but cannot tell you her age. She can handle routine things around the house, but any variation confuses and upsets her. What makes it worse is a comment she made many years ago, after seeing a good friend slowly succumb to Alzheimer’s – “I hope that’s not the way I die.”

Earl wants to be a pain in the posterior to his posterity.

Nelson sort of lives with him, so he had already accomplished that goal.

My maternal grandfather lived to 96. This September would’ve marked him turning 110.

I think that Earl has already accomplished his goal.

I’m going to run up a mountain when I’m 100. I’m certainly not going to do it before.

Revenge of the Earl?

This joke is so old, if age were hair, Earl would look like a really, really old Father Time.

My dad lived to 98…the longest of any family member on his side….died in 2016!

It’s not important how long your life lasts – as long as it is worth living. Better to live a 100 % than live to 100

This joke is maybe 100 years old. “Avenge Yourself… Live long enough to become a problem for your children!” is an old saw.

My grandmother died at 96. One of her parting messages was, “Don’t live this long. It sucks”. I hope to take her advice.
