Looking into that mirror, he saw an alternate “reality”. It was more like what a “real” ant looks like (with compound eyes and ant mandible appendages), instead of the more human-like head and face features (eyes, nose, a mouth) that he and we ‘normally’ see.
He apparently prefers the B.C. Wonderland he lives in (the world we know him in) and has decided not to go through that Looking Glass.
It’s nice (wonderful) for us to be able “escape” this side of the mirror each day and to “visit” the other side through this comic (and other comics) each day.
Wouldn’t it be a great concept if the alien invasion we keep dreaming up, was full of tiny ships and Klingon level warriors that hated our insects. I mean really, if tiny aliens came and picked a fight with the fire ants, mosquitos, roach’s and locusts, which side would we support?
reminds me of the times I start the camera on my phone to take a photo and the selfie camera comes on instead. It instantly destroys the image of myself that is in the inside of my head but not the outside.
Oh No! I just looked in the Mirror. Was I always this ugly, or did I just get old? Wait I remember an old girlfriend who said “I was beyond ugly, I was in the fugly range.” But it was the 80’s when everything was fugly.
I’ll bet the spiders would tell you that it is a handsome face. “ Will you walk into my parlour?" said a spider to an ant; ”’Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy.”

Shouldn’t panel 2 be in a grid of like a hundred little pictures? At least that’s the way it was in The Fly.
