It’s weird how Shannon was leading most of play this week. I would have thought Luann would in charge but I guess it’s a case of the blind leading the one-eyed
Well, so much for my little theory. Oh well. At least the end of this storyline will still be more exciting than the upcoming Sunday strip. Which will probably put me to sleep before I get half way through reading it. Again, oh well…..

There is something in here about how to raise a child – even a challenging one, like Shannon.
Too bad G&K‘s writing is such that it may have gotten lost.
Kudos to Luann for (apparently) handling the situation rather well, all things considered.
G&K, not so much. There was so much opportunity for expounding on both Shannon and Luann. All of it wasted.
Okay. I get it. Shannon is supposed to be comic relief. Much as I am a Shannon fan, I‘ll be the first to admit that this style of humor is not everyone‘s cup of tea. At times, it‘s not mine, either.
Surely, there is a way to portray Shannon such that we don‘t get the majority of readers wound up to the point of wanting to kill her to death by murder.
(I really do think folks get a wee bit too wound up, which is my point)
I think they should all wear tinfoil hats, so they don’t get even more brainwashed by Shannon. “It’s good that you did that, Shannon—and tomorrow’s gonna be a real good day!” (Twilight Zone reference)
This was Shannon’s arc from start to finish. Luann, Toni and Brad were supporting characters. I totally fell for the GnK patented misdirection play, but I still like the gentle, warm, and funny way the arc was handled from start to finish.
Actually, if Luann and Shannon were really going to wearing a hat for a year, it would be fun. Luann’s hat looks like one of those traditional Dutch cap, it fits her very well♡! She might say she wears it to recover an old family tradition. Shannon would look nice with a baseball cap.
Toni, showing that she shares the same genes with her brother, has just dumped one of HER family on her husband’s family so that they can go out and have a good time. Now, to bury the guilt of putting the screws to Luann, Toni suggests that Luann and the kid had a good time. See, everything is just peachy keen and maybe they’ll let Luann babysit again so she can put her less worthy life on hold. And, Brad that dumb clod, just smiles and is pleased that Toni has no reason to jerk that short leash she has around his neck.
Now that Brad and Toni are home, they can whack off a piece of their hair, and they can all wear those super cool newspaper hats for a year! (one year Luanniverse time, 7 years our time)
1) Back to Nil and Bernice setting even MORE “boundaries in in their “relationship?” And have you noticed that only the young adults have any sort of boundaries in this Strip?
2) Bets and Gun on their way to the San Diego Comics-Con, but not before meeting Bets’ nightmare of a family, which should give him another good reason to “forfeit?”
3) Tiffany joyously swimming around in money in the Farrell mansion’s Scrooge McDuck style money vault that Tom conveniently forgot to ever tell Ann Eiffel about?
Ok, now that two weeks of the brat and the aimless high school blond are behind us, who’s gonna guess what the next arc is going to feature? Any bets on Toni & Brad? It’s been a minute.
Ok, whatever. This is on topic. Shannonbrat is being portrayed as a child who has learned that any reprimand should be met with immediate tears, as a deflection, and then no consequences. What an annoying, lazy plot device. Shame.
I haven’t read the comments for the last few days. But there have been several times that I have seen a few commenters ruin an otherwise interesting set of comments about a Luann strip with comments that are far removed from the topic of the day and are only meant to jar the consciousness of the readers who truly enjoy watching how Greg and Karen develop their storylines. I see a few of those commenters are now upset. Be that tough, intelligent, insightful person that you could be and try to understand. This is not your strip. Quit trying to mess it up.
Yeah, so…(1) Luann allegedly “babysits” but lets Shannon steamroll all over her; (2) Shannon variably acts like she’s anywhere from 4 to 17 years old and then back again; (3) Greg & Karen have never watched any actual stylists on YouTube, or any other Gen-Yers there for that matter, and apparently think that “dude date” and “man action” are the hot slang terms right now; (4) nothing consequential happens at all, as there was just an insignificant strand chopped off, and her outdated hairdo remains intact; (5) Shannon doesn’t get into trouble; (6) Luann experiences no character development; (7) Congrats to G&K who got through another week of their contractual commitment. Oh well.
Wow! Clever solution. Looks like problem sorted! Unfortunately no cute new haircut for Luann. I was hoping for a short bob or a pixie. Then watch her gradually grow it back out.
Pittsville is supposed to be in California, right? Well how about something more exciting… Like a massive earthquake, a raging wildfire, tsunami or a mudslide?
Shannon receives no punishment for pilfering TJ’s stuff or for cutting Luann’s hair (and for using scissors without permission yet again, and Luann receives no character development or progress towards any goal (of which she doesn’t actually have any.) Two weeks of story time utterly wasted: this was pure filler that could’ve been removed altogether without affecting the overall narrative.
The thriving town of Pitts has become the comic’s answer to urban decay. Most characters, old and new, have been thrown on the trash pile and Bernice has decided to jump start her libido.
Well, it’s over. Not much accomplished here. But maybe next week Luann will get a new hairstyle and think about resolving the lack of direction in her life that she brought up earlier…
OR maybe Bets & Gunther will go on a double date with Bernice & Nil, and the girls will fight over whether instagramming food at dinner is polite while the boys shrug their shoulders and look confused! YAY!
Swear to gad, I’ll drop this strip if that happens.
It has been a nice break from Bitchy Bets and Boring Bernice. I hope neither of those women are featured next week. I wonder if Nil and Gunther have anything in common to talk about?
No, no, no, no, no. Oh, look! See what fun we had? We’re wearing stupid newspaper hats! What fun! Sigh…. Oh, gosh, I don’t know what that hair is doing in the bathroom trash. Looks like mine, you say? I have no idea how it got there. And all that product all over the place? Nope, no clue. Nothing to see here. Well, gotta go. Night, Shannon. Nope, no consequences for you. Is there ever? Sheesh. Kind of disgusted with this whole thing.
Shannon goes undisciplined, again. It would have been novel had G&K actually have Bwat face consequences. I hope that next arc has Luann contemplating how to change her life and get out of her rut. One solid move would to be less available to babysit the Bwat.
Paper hats?! Pathetic paper hats to conceal the Brat’s misdeeds as Luann wimps out yet again and takes the side of her offender? Lame enough an ending to be seen over at Frog Applause, the land of the lame!
What the H*!! does this have to do with Luann accidently getting a hair cut from Shannon? I am sure Toni could fix it anyway after Luann makes her promise not to punish Shannon too much.
