I’m quite serious in this observation, but with Lot’s wife if is said she was turned to salt as a punishment for disobeying the order to look back, usually- dumb woman didn’t listen and was PUNISHED. but what if it is a case of a ‘safety’ issue. salt is usually seen as ‘pure’ so in turning to salt she wasn’t punished but purified. meaning she wasn’t punished but it was a safety thing. i know it’s subtle but still…

Perhaps there is some value in understanding the Bible is a collection of stories (that is the meaning of “bible” after all) on the topic of one sect of the Abrahamic religions. They were written, mostly by men, and then compiled, mostly by other men, into the Holy Bible to serve man’s interest’s and needs. The fact that so many claim them as the word of God is fanciful. After all, if the Holy Bible is the word of God, and God is perfect, all seeing, all knowing, all powerful, why was there any need to compile a New Testament? Wouldn’t God have done it right the first time, and in languages all could understand for themselves, without the need for church “interpreters” to tell us what He meant? Was King George God? If not, why should we believe his version, or any other for that matter, is the real word of God?

Danae’s focus is too narrow. There are a lot of cruel ‘imbalances’ in this world, as well as some that are just plain ignorance based. The Bible is only one of the earlier records that were written and rewritten in the attempt to establish certain biases. It’s best attempt at improving society was the Ten Commandments, and we all know how that is working out.

look at the context of the times the writers lived in. Strength and lack of birth control had a lot to do with social roles. Also, much of what applies to the men also applies to the women. The ideals apply to People, not just a specific sex.

Although Jesus had a couple of influential friends (Somebody had to buy his body from the Roman execution squad, so it would not be left to rot on the cross as was their custom), most of his following were people that “polite society” wouldn’t deal with: farmers, fishermen, tax collectors, lepers …

Women were included in this lot. Women first century Judea didn’t have a lot of station. In fact, they were pretty much chattel and “belonged” to their men.

Jesus had little appeal to the 1% of his day nor to the conservatives of his day. Ironic how that has changed.

I’ve long been astonished that Christians can claim with a straight face that, yes, the Yahweh of the Old Testament was a petty, vengeful, murderous jerk, but that everything was set right by Jesus (according to the fanfic of his most devoted followers, known as the New Testament). But that’s got it exactly backwards.

Sure, if you did something that pïssed off the easily irritated Yahweh, he’d smite you where you stood, plus your family and half the innocent bystanders in the surrounding county as collateral damage. But that was it. Dead. Done. Finito. Period. Game Over. Sayonara. Hasta la vista. It wasn’t until Jesus came along that they invented the concept of “No no no, my friend, we’re gonna fry your sorry äss forever! The Bible is the Word of God. With all kinds of people complaining about it I don’t think anybody has presented a solution for a better Bible. Almost everything in the Bible happened in the past so I don’t think changing it is going to solve anything.

This makes me wonder if you’ve ever read the Bible. Adam is responsible for bringing sin into the world, not Eve. Other than that there are both bad men and women, heroic men and women all throughout Scripture.
