I used to play “I spy” with my nephews. Apparently, word got out. One day, a black van with shaded windows, a little revolving antenna on top, and two very serious men in sunglasses and dark suits, parked across the street from my house. They studiously ignored me every time I passed them on my morning walk. I’d tap on the window and cheerfully ask, “Everything all right in there?” Eventually, they went away.
In the second panel, I know what that anticipation was like in the days before online tracking of packages. But at least I’d still pay attention in class!

Happiest he’s ever been in school.

You also need to pay attention to become a spy, Calvin. So…not happening.
Templo S.U.D. about 2 years ago
Sure y’are, Calvin, at knowing what’s happening.

You would think Miss Wormwood would be a little happy that Calvin isn’t being his usual self. Causing trouble.

That condition will follow him to his grave!!!

Perception is your middle name, Calvin.

As usual, Cal’s mind is somewhere off planet.

At least kids need smartphones and wireless earbuds nowadays to be in the kind of state that Calvin is in. Yay, I guess.

But at least he has a happy face.

Its called being a boy….this generation has to label anything masculine as a “condition”

It’s kinda sad to know that Miss Wormwood and the principal are long ago passed away.
Chris about 2 years ago
just need to not get so distracted.

Notice that both teacher and principal are a couple of old fossils.
Maybe it’s time for fresh blood at that school—you know, from the 21st century!!

Situational awareness is not only about knowing what’s going on around you. It’s also about knowing what you can ignore.

Miss Wormwood must have an incredibly short fuse since Calvin is not disrupting the class
kathleenhicks62 about 2 years ago
Calvin isn’t even on Earth now. He will probably spend 16 years in grade school trying to become a spy or something.

Calvin’s expression is the same in all four frames.

Does Calvin have a reserved seat in the principal’s office with his name on it? Like Tim The Tool Man has a reserved space at the Emergency Room?
Stephen Gilberg about 2 years ago
Gee, I often got barked at for zoning out in elementary school, but I never went to the principal just for that.

Calvin has a fantastic control of his auditory senses. My late grandmother had to switch off her hearing aid to ignore conversations.

Between this strip and yesterday’s, I don’t think espionage is the right career path for Calvin.
