Well I am a teacher in a public school. We all come to school not in fear and go on as life goes on. Living in fear prevents you from living to the fullest. Tomorrow is not guaranteed for anyone. A child shot at school could also be killed riding to school, kidnapped while walking to school, or any number of ways. Don’t transfer your fears onto to your children. Allow ourselves to appreciate life as we have it at the moment. Zoe picked up this fear from somewhere or someone. I suspect we will find out as the week progesses.
5 people at a local middle school have been indicted for sexual harassment. 1 teacher(male) and 4 admins(FEMALE), two of these were principals, this had been going on for a long time! The women let the perv teacher get away with it for years!!
I can remember when politics weren’t controlling schools and curriculum, the administrators were all educators and not self absorbed in their position of power, and your worst fear as a boy was being beat by a girl in Four Square or for the girls, being beat by a boy in Hopscotch.
As I read this, there’s TV report right this very actual moment about a local public school where the middle and high schools were closed yesterday due to a phoned in threat. Last weekend, there was a shooting at the homecoming game, so the threat was taken very seriously. The elementary schools stayed open, but some parents kept their kids home anyway, and they just interviewed a parent who said he kept his kids home because although he trusts the school to keep his kids safe, he’s concerned about his kids being freaked out by all the police presence, and wanted to be able to talk to them at home himself and get them with their friends.
Back in the late 70’s/early 80’s, we all carried pocket knives. A few carried switch blades. However, these were useful items, not used as weapons. We didn’t have a single stabbing at the school. I carried a Swiss army knife before MacGyver ever made it popular in pop culture.
It’s so sad that the world’s come to this. No wonder why parents are turning to home schooling these days, though it was more prevelent when we were on lockdown.
So far we don’t know WHY Zoe feels unsafe in school, and we’re all assuming it’s due to violence in our schools.
Maybe there’s a kid who’s been harassing her. Maybe she’s learning a subject that she simply can’t figure out. Maybe there’s a hornet’s nest outside her window.
Today’s strip speaks volumes. Our school district started middle of August, last week of August 5 student’s brought 5 guns in, one HS received shooting in classroom text, another school bomb threat, which turned out several HS different states also received same bomb threat, and with a threat of a guy may have past connection’s of school, no one children are scared.
Then you all can stay in your basement and be potentially safe from all the possible bad things out in the world.
Actual murders of people AT school are, fortunately, still statistically rare. You wouldn’t know that from the Lame Stream media outlets. This same LSM outlets who glorify the murderers and almost ignore the victims. Too many mass killers note that they were looking for fame and body counts. That’s what we thinking people call a clue.
Oh, so Robb is being torn down. Sandy Hook was torn down. Are Bath, MA, VA Tech, Parkland, and Columbine going to be retroactively torn down?
Rasputinshoroscope has already said this but it bears repeating. We do not know why she feels unsafe. I can clearly remember times when one of my parents would start to reply to some concern of mine and the other would interrupt to ask me what I meant, why did I feel that way. That saved me from some explanations that would have been very confusing. You should not assume you know what a person is thinking, especially a child.
This is so sad, it made me want to cry. No child should feel unsafe at school but they do and that is horrible. I had a bit of this experience in school in 1990. My family had moved to NY from PA to be closer to family, unfortunely that didn’t work out so well and happily we moved back to PA 9 months later, and when I went to the school there within the first week there was an incident that made me very fearful to go to school everyday but for 2 months I went and spent the day scared and looking over my shoulder all day and ended up sick to my stomach and my migraine headaches that I still suffer with got worse than they ever did and after that 2 months I couldn’t take it anymore and I quit school there, telling my parents it was because of my headaches that I couldn’t do it anymore, but when we moved back to PA I went back to school and graduated with honors. I don’t think my parents really believed me as to why I quit there but back then parents did talk about dangers and such. I finally told them about 15 years ago the truth as to what happened and they felt horrible for me and held me while we all cried, even my then husband, I told him about it after one of the school shooting incidents and how I’m glad that I never thought of doing thatand he encouraged me to tell my parents the truth, and it made me relieved to tell the the truth after so many years. Children- do not be afraid to tell your parents if school is making you feel unsafe and explain to them why, trust me they love you and want to make you feel safe and will listen and comfort you just like my parents did even though I told them years later.
It’s so sad kids these days have to worry about whether or not they’ll be coming home. I certainly never had to worry about that when I went to school in the 80s-90s.

Too true. I was bullied badly in junior high. Mom and Dad were on a first name basis with several paramedics.

All we had to fear was the bomb and those drills to hide under our desks, like that would save us.

I agree. The Critical Race Theory inspired Curriculum and the grooming definitely create an unsafe environment.
