Obviously, Gunther is assuming that a certain activity has taken place; he has no info about Tiffany falling down the stairs in her mansion and Ox and Les rescuing her…
OK, one of my missing bits of background has been answered, as apparently Gunther does room with Les — though it still doesn’t explain the panel a couple of days ago that seemed to depict the dwelling as too small for that. Nonetheless, it seems to me that Tiff has some ‘splainin’ to do about why she asked to recuperate there.
Les is exhibiting a remarkably restrained response to the situation and a very vulnerable Tiffany. Especially in light of how he has reacted to Tiff and other females in the past.
Assuming Tiff is there by her own choice, why should Gunther care what happens between her and Les? He’s acting like a protective big brother – except he’s not her brother.
Les is right – Gunther is weird. I think Gunther is still a bit nuts – probably a result of too much Mommy in the earlier years and the childhood morals were easier to handle. In recent years, it seems like Gunther’s moral outbursts have been a cover for deeper insecurity and jealousy. Gunther and Les have both competed for Tiffany’s favor in the past, I think deep down, Gunther may be more worried about Les winning than Tiffany losing.
Oh Gunther… always ready to think the worst if the situation involves Les… that’s not good! In the end, Les is surprisingly taking everything with maturity and appears to be respectful of Tiffany’s privacy. But this situation can’t continue, Tiffany has to find a place for her or face her fears of being alone or to deal with her annoying roommates. Staying in a spare room at Al and Irma’s house is also no a solution, but it would be better than taking the room from Les.
Many readers in here don’t appear to know that Gunther has no idea what happened to Tiffany. He arrives home and finds Les in the living room and he shushes him and tells him Tiffany is in his room sleeping. Yea at that age it’s naturally assumed they did the deed as is the standard when the opposite sex is in a bedroom. Sex consumes the lives of most teens and young adults. Gunther assumes and is upset thinking Tiffany is taken advantage of. For me, that says he doesn’t know Tiffany that well. She is not that type who gives up to the guys. She flirts but does not cross that line. Plus having a nearly real potential of becoming step siblings at one point, Les and Tiff’s relationship since has not been anything romantic. They shared the same goal – getting rid of Ann Eiffel, or rather, rescue Tom Farrell from Ann, for those who missed the whole arc, who is Les’s mother. So they went to hell and back together. They’re just friends.
Ugh. Does this suggest to anyone else that MOST of next week will be panel upon panel of “Grumpy Gunth” irately arguing with purposefully “Ambiguous Les” about Tiffany being in Les’ bed? I could see this aspect of the story being dragged out for “yuks” all week long, much to my dismay.
I am not really fond of this personality archetype Greg foists upon Gunther far too often. Sadly to say…. even the “whipping boy” personality archetype he gets to portray in his relationship with Bets is more interesting that the “Grumpy Gunth” one….. and that is saying something because I do not like the abused “whipping boy” persona either.
It has gotten to a point for me, that when Gunther shows up…. it is disappointing to me… because it inevitably ends up being some sort of arc where he is portrayed in an ever more negative light.
To me, after he returned from Peru, and he grew his peach-fuzz “beard”…. his arc was initially on a trajectory that felt fun and had him grow as a character. But Greg rather quickly backtracked from that to what we have now. In my mind, I would like to see Gunther (symbolically at least, if not in reality) grow his FULL beard and mustache…. and have it be a symbol at least on the OUTSIDE that he is striving to move beyond the “grump/whipping boy” nonsense that is all he is at the moment. In other words…. give him an arc where he ACTS on his own goals…. instead of just REACTING negatively to what is foisted upon him by others.
There is no way Les could have made that filthy pit presentable in such a short amount of time. He certainly didn’t take down the pinups he has all over the wall. But maybe Tiffany is too zonked out on pain meds to notice. Of course that just means she’ll wake up screaming.
And so, it begins. Starting with Gunther reflecting all the somewhat justified suspicion on Les’s motives, in the prurient area, while Les himself has only good motives toward Tiffany, thus demonstrating the benign influence of Luannverse. I wonder if, following misdirection play strategy, Bets will not be jealous, will understand, and help, including calling her boyfriend down.
Dang! I wanted to see what the room looked like after Les tidied up. My children’s rooms always looked the same after! Strange that Gunther would jump to a conclusion like that about Tiffany. The up side is he got groceries, so after he gets over his hissy fit he can make her some food.
Les was the weird all week long but now he’s the one making sense. I would like to think that he thinks of Tiff as a sister despite that her dad never married Ann; here’s to hoping he’s not doing all this to entice Tiff into a relationship but to establish brotherly behavior. His remark suggests this but we will see.
Amazing how many commenters make up bad things about Les. What actually happened today in the strip IS: Les cleaned his room up and let Tiffany sleep in there alone and Les is trying to keep the house quiet so she can rest. That is all Les did today. He talks big sometimes and tries to look important, but he is Tiffany’s friend.
Poor Tiff needs to be rescued. Not just from Les, but from Greg who has treated her like dirt in a landslide “like forever.” How blatant can you get? From mansion to filthy pig sty?
Gunther? Calm down. Calm down and ask Les _if_he’s told Al and Irma about this little “living arrangement” with Tiffany staying at the Gulag.
(A large cup of Starbucks Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino says he HASN’T.)
But hey, no worries.
Since Tiffany is quietly sleeping and you guys don’t want to disturb her, tell Les that NOW would be a really, really GOOD time to tell Al and Irma. You know. So they don’t get “shocked and surprised” when they find out that Tiffany has taken up residence in the Gulag WITHOUT THEIR KNOWLEDGE.
No, don’t you tell them. I just want to see Les’ squirm out a response. Instead, use that little “secret” as future leverage against your “roommate.” After all Les respects and appreciates blackmail since he so effectively used it against his own mother a while back.
Now.
Fix Tiffany a nice scrumptious dinner, for when she wakes up. She’ll truly appreciate that.
And later, be sure that the bathroom is prepared for Tiff’s immediate use. Especially make sure the door lock works.
She’ll very much WANT to wash off all the bedbugs and cooties she now acquiring while blissfully sleeping in Les’ room.
And save your “anger” for next week when you find out that Les will be a-sleeping in YOUR room during Tiff’s “convalescence.”
Gunther needs a o chill out and stop jumping to conclusions. I get it that he cares about his friend, Tiffany, however, but he needs to get the facts first.
Most of the posters here don’t realize that Gunther has no personal knowledge of Tiffany falling down the stairs in her mansion (after moving from the dorm and then finding a broken window, that scared her into stumbling down the steps after calling Ox for help). Gunther knows none of this, or that after the police came and asked Tiffany if she had a safe place to stay, she said she wanted to go home with Les. Since she and Les were almost step sister and brother, I doubt that she feels any attraction for him (even though he may still feel that for her). But Gunther doesn’t know all that, so he assumes that Les and Tiffany slept together. You know what they say about ‘assume’…

Wait.. why is Gunther so upset?? He has Bets. What Tiff and Les do shouldn’t concern him.. should it?
They should probably buy a couch. Sleeping on a bean bag chair won’t be very comfortable.
Wouldn’t Gunther have seen Tiff’s Porsche outside, and guessed she was visiting??
beb01 about 2 years ago
Why shouldn’t he assume the worst of Leslie, he remembers when Leslie was the worst. A horndog, a menace to any and all females.
Actually I’m surprised that Leslie was able to clean up his room enough for Tiffany to enter without gagging.
So next week Leslie generosity and Tiffany’s virtue will be debated at 98 decibels.
