Well, I guess everyone who thought Nancy was secretly the author were wrong.
Or… when they get there, will there be a big sign with Nancy’s photo and the name D. Coverly beneath it, and Nancy will spin around and give Bernice a big wink??? :-O
And if it’s not Nancy … will it be someone else we know?
Sooo . . . why do I get the feeling this is going to turn into those kinds of scenarios where Luann will start to feel jealous and neglected over Bernice “stealing” her mother, and will stoop to passive aggressive manners to separate them, which we lead up to her having to be given a motherly lecture from Nancy about how she may enjoy Bernice’s company, but she could never take Luann’s place as her daughter in her heart?
Now we know. Luann is dismissive toward Romance Novels. Maybe that’s why she hasn’t seen a way clear to pursue “romance.” Looks like Nancy and Bernice are simpatico in this regard.
Who will go to the meet and greet? Who will they discover there? What will happen?
A) Luann appears not to be fooled about what books they are talking about. and
B) Yesterday I had the idea that the author was really Mr Fogarty, the boring, humorless teacher Bernice and Luann had in high school. This sounds exactly like the twist Greg likes to pull.
Unless “D. Coverly” is the nom de plume of the Luann Universe’s yet-to-be-arrested Golden State Killer, there is little chance of this storyline being a nail-biter.
It would be funny if D. Coverly turned out to be Luann. I don’t see how that could possibly happen (unless Luann has been doing a lot of writing behind the scenes while others starred in her comic). But I wish that would happen.
D. Fogarty turns out to be Ann Eiffel. Berenice and Nancy both get her autograph, then are invited to a special lunch for top fans. At the lunch, Ann arranges to have a special signing and fanvention at the Fuze. After selling a Gazillion signed novels, Tiffany and Les notice that D. Cloverly’s novel is a plagiarism of a rejected first novel by Margot Hunkhunter, a popular romance writer. Cloverly’s other novels are also plagiarized from other authors, with illustraions stolen from Nil. Eiffel is once again forced to leave town, but vows to be back for revenge. Tiffany and Les celebrate in the privacy hut.
Don’t let the mystery author be some old, character that we’ve met before. We need a new, exciting character that will turn the girls into real groupies.
I’m thinking the author of those books is either Luann (Which would serve Nancy right) or Tara.
Although it could easily be Mrs Phelps-Fogarty, or the elderly but frisky Mrs Horner.
But I’m really hoping the “author” is one Ann Eiffel, a person they both had a “history” with. And the setting of Borderline books would be appropriate as Ann was first introduced as a manager at Borderline nearly two decades ago.
Maybe the author is Frank, which would also be a hoot.
Luann seems genuinely amused by Nancy and Bernice’s love of romance novels. As an aspiring writer, she should be interested in meeting all types of authors. But she’s still at the beginning and she prefers authors she likes. It’s nice to see Nancy and Bernice bond and be able to share a special interest like they can’t do with their relatives. I wonder if Mrs. Horner is actually D. Coverly, the energetic old lady could very well be an author of novels full of passion.
okay I realize now that Nancy is not the name of the comic I was thinking of. comic I was thinking of was a different comic with one name about the life of a woman not a kid lmao
Reading other comments from my fellow Luaanites often makes me want to show how they’re so wrong and I’m (probably) right, but today I agree that Lu knows but amusedly dismisses her BFF and mom’s sharing steamy novels; part of the fun is that they, apparently, believe they’re hiding that from Lu. Sort of like alcoholics who believe no one can see that fact about them. Otherwise, awaiting developments.
So Luann knows all about her mother and best friend’s penchant for dirty books. She doesn’t seem to mind that Bernice and Nancy have become such good friends. And we see yet another insult to the most probably innocent Mrs. Halper. I hope she turns out to be D. Cloverly. That would be perfect.
Yes. I’m not surprised she never did this with her mom. My mom asked to “borrow” my Masters and Johnson book that I bought when I was 15, so she could check for things that might corrupt my fragile mind. She did not share mermaid erotica with me. (She decided it was okay for me to have my rather clinical book.)
Remember when Luann went to that event (it was either the lingerie party or the body art expo) and didn’t tell Bernice, and Bernice threw a huge fit about it and demanded to be invited to whatever Luann does, even if it’s something she wouldn’t be caught dead doing? She said that as Luann’s best friend she was still entitled to an invite, so she could make her opinion clear.
Apparently when the tables are turned, Bernice isn’t willing to extend that same courtesy to Luann despite her earlier posturing. That shows what kind of friend she actually is.
Now we are back to creepy. Maybe when we see who the author is then things will lighten up. I know I would have been creeped out if one of my friends’ mothers shared romance novels with me at that age.
I have a feeling D. Coverly is a pen name for someone they know, but would never think was a romance book author! What are Tara’s books? Will an old character make an appearance? =;-)
Luann doesn’t seem to be about Luann anymore. It is about everyone except her. Will Luann ever have a boyfriend? Will she ever mature a bit? The other story arcs are fun but somehow Luann got lost.
I have a bad feeling about this. I would be surprised if Luann didn’t read romance novels! What if Luann discovers Nancy and Denise’s little secret? Her mom and bestie not including her would be unforgiveable. I wonder if this is in the offing?
Hmm. Nan and Bernie are getting on famously, almost like a mother and daughter, while that other girl (what’s her name? Lulu, or something like that?) feeds her face from the fridge.
Will we get to meet “D. Coverly” (obviously a pen name)? Will we recognize her?
This is on the borderline (ahem!) of interesting….
I think it’s absolutely darling that Nancy is letting a bit of sparkle come thru, and share it with prude-y Bernice! Their comments in the first frame says it all. No, there is nothing inappropriate going on here. In fact, I think it’s this exchange is totally sincere and appropriate to both of them, as well as to a lot of readers here!
