She isn’t going to make the same mistake that Paul did and she’s going to let Art do his thing, but he can’t possibly be happy with the situation. So, as Dekko planned to take the other two out of the picture, she is planning to take Dekko out of the picture. The tables have turned!
So.. a shark eats a fish and soon another shark eats the original shark ? Art will be a fool if he does not watch his back but then he knows about going behind people’s backs, don’t he, Sue ?
Yesterday, mid-afternoon, GoComics finally corrected the mistake made last week when the 1/16 strip was reposted on 1/18. The 1/18 strip is now where it should be. See it here:
It’s quite possible “99” didn’t know ahead of time that Dekko was planning to off Paul, but once she heard about Paul’s murder in Florida she knew Dekko was behind it. She did seem to know about Paul’s attempt to shake down Dekko, either before or after the fact. She also seems pretty sharp, which raises the question why she didn’t raise a red flag when Paul (probably) told her Dekko was giving him a paid vacation out of town. This could be another case of Mike throwing in a plot twist & new character midway through a story, without really thinking through how it fits in with what’s gone on before.
Getting a couple of more angles on her face, especially without the glasses, shows that she has a slightly different face shape than Shelley has been giving Lizz. Shelley is really good about keeping face and head shapes consistent through different angles.
I still don’t get 99’s connection with both Paul and Kryp. Since Chump Decko called Krip, it had to have been some coincidence that Crip would be associated with Paul’s agent. Didn’t he know who he was killing? Paul seemed clueless, but it seems 99 had told him something was afoot and he ignored her. What kind of agent is she? Is she an art agent that he doesn’t use because he does forgeries? Is she an evil business dealings agent that he didn’t use when setting up a relationship with Artie? Paul: “I’m going to hire an agent and not use her or listen to her.” So she’s an agent for Paul and now decides to set up an alliance with his killer? Something doesn’t make sense.
Wow….the double crosses in this operation are impressive. Kryptonite is going to be to take a long vacation after all the fees he’ll collect on this caper.
So, Hoodie-Girl really was connected to Paul Chandler, whether as his agent or in some other way (girlfriend? sister?). And she has quickly formed a low opinion of “genius” Dekko (maybe Paul had described him to her with that word at some point). Indeed, not only has she a low opinion of Art; she also plans on having Kryptonite, whom she somehow knows, take him down once the “da Vinci” cash cow has been milked! And so she takes her leave of Paul’s place, with a grocery-bag full of stuff that she deems significant, completing her soliloquy (probably should have been an interior monologue, with bubbles up to the text balloons rather than the arrows that conventionally represent actual speech).

How dare she? Plotting to both double cross Art Dekko and have Kryptonite murder him? Who does she think she is? Him?

Will Kryptonite end up taking two contracts and killing both of them like Lee van Cleef at the start of THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY?

Any bets that, despite "99"’s warning, Dekko will be calling “Kryptonite” for another job?

What I don’t get is why Paul’s apartment isn’t being at least surveilled by the police.

Now that she has seen Art Dekko, he really does not come across as all that and a bag of chips.

Today’s third panel…how ironic…Art was going to take Paul and Sue out of the equation. Now he is going to be the one taken out.

Okay,it’s a new character. And when Art gets back to the shop,Tracy will be waiting with Danish and coffee and a friendly chat.
Off camera,I’m hoping he talked Sue into pleading guilty to minor charges and getting as far away from this war zone as possible.
