If I had talked to a teacher like that as a child, I would have received some quick-acting correction at home. I’m surprised no one has commented on this.

Used to be 75% was a D. When educations systems from secondary school through college broadened the scale to 10 points/letter, 70-79% became a C. Gradeflation continued, and the dumbing down of school curricula picked up more momentum.

Very soon colleges no longer expected students to complete degree requirements in 4-years and actually benefited by the extensions of 1 or more years to a Bachelor’s degree. Relaxed ‘standards’ were justified as allowing students more time to experience college life at their own pace. Some enrolled in only one or two courses for up to 3 additional years.

We’re gonna be paying for that for decades.

Just because a bottle says “Maalox” doesn’t necessarily mean Maalox is in the bottle. A Maalox bottle doesn’t raise eyebrows like a whiskey flask does.

Evidently, the Maalox company was willing to pay more for a ‘product placement mention’ than the Pepto Bismol company was. Very shrewd, that Bill Watterson.

At a military academy I got 10% on a calculus final and that was an “A”. Don’t buy the “free education” promise. I literally had to repeat all the courses of my freshman year when I transferred to the University of California, even though my transcript showed I had been given two semesters of accelerated courses in one semester at the academy. I was also on the military academy’s Dean’s List. I was basically tricked out of a year’s education.

In baseball, they take percents out three decimal places. So, 30% performance (.300) is excellent. This is failure in any other profession. Perhaps we should all play baseball.

    Iceland – 75% = B

    Ireland – 75% = B

England – 75% used to be a B, but they use a completely different grading scale now (not letter grades)

    Canada – 75% = B

    Australia – 75% = “Band 4” or “Distinction” (equivalent of a B)

I’ve been watching a lot of slice of life high school anime, so there is one thing I want to know about tests in Japan. Is a passing grade really 50 over there? When I was in high school you needed to get at least 65 to pass

If a baseball player where to get a hit 75% of the time he would either be great or it’s the first week of the season. If a QB where to complete 75% of his passes he would be considered better than Tom Brady.
