This reminds of the movie “Joy Ride”, about two guys on a road trip, playing a prank on a trucker by using a CB radio. If I remember right, they pretend that they’re a girl named “Candy Cane”, and they lead him on. The trucker turns out to be a psychopathic killer, and pursues the two guys.
When I read Peanuts in my school-days, I assumed that Charlie Brown and the other children were the only ones who were privy to the fact that Snoopy is more than just an ordinary dog – that is to say, I believed that the unseen grown-ups weren’t aware of things such as Snoopy being able to write and play tennis, etc. I eventually came to realize, though, that Snoopy’s human abilities are apparent to everyone in Peanuts, child and adult alike. In today’s strip, for instance – wouldn’t you be surprised, if you were in the neighbour’s shoes – to see a dog operating technical equipment?
Now, instead of following each other, and keeping the passing lane open, they’ll constantly try to pass each other at 0.1 of a MPH difference, backing traffic up for miles.
The only convoys you see anymore are typically all part of the same fleet. Independent truckers no longer try to form them.
My wife and I used CB sort of like a cell phone. I’d call her on the way home, and she’d tell me to either keep coming or to go pick up the pizza she’d be ordering
Buddy of mine used to play Fox and Hounds with his CB friends. One of them would drive out some place and start transmitting. The others had to try to track him down, just using signal strength and triangulation.
It was the cellphone of its day, more like a redneck telephone, but it was effective and popular briefly, a necessary tool for Truckers, farmers and stranded motorists. Cops still monitor channels 9 and 19 despite the prevalence of newer technology,
Lousy wildlife keeping everybody up all night with their seventies-era technology….lowering property values…and don’t get me started on that beagle with the World War I vintage aircraft!
How manyy kids reading this today even know whay a CB is. I imagine they’d be wonding why folks don’t bother using their smartphones if they watch Smokey and the Bandit, Convoy, or The Dukes of Hazzard. And if they do they find the jargon strange (yet look at texting jargon and tell me it’s not equally strange).
I had installed a 2m/70cm ham radio and a CB (installed mag mount antennas on the trunk lid) in my 2003 Toyota Corolla and was driving through the Bristol VA/TN area early one Saturday morning and was mistaken for the highway patrol.

Got one in summer 1976, rarely used it, listened to all the others chattering mostly.

C W McCall in early 1976 (which probably inspired this episode in 1976).

Convoys are pretty much a thing of the past.

My parents had a CB radio: Dad was “Nashua Woodman” & Mom was “Ma Tini”. My husband & I got one later; he was “Snow Owl” & I was “Silver Unicorn”.

Are Snoopy and Woodstock barking and tweeting into the speakers? Because there’s no way they can communicate their thoughts into a speaker.
