Holy Cr.p! Is Luann gonna steam the letter open after all??? LOL

Pretty daring move, grabbing the note from Bernice. As much as Luann may not like it, it IS Bernice’s note and she can do whatever she wants with it. One thing we know for sure, is that Bernice must still have some feelings for Piro, or she wouldn’t be acting the way she is.

    .

So will Luann steam it open… and how can Bernice not feel that the letter is out of her hand?

That last panel is a bit confusing. I’m assuming Bernice placed the letter on the desk and then Luann picked it up? Because, given that previous exchange of dialogue, I doubt that Bernice would’ve just handed it to her, even though the action as drawn almost looks as though that’s what she did.

Gawd, Bernice is as insufferable as ever. She could as easily read the letter silently then tell Luann that it was personal or let her read it herself.

Of course now that Luann has snitched the letter out of Bernice’s grasp without her knowing it (something impossible to believe) Luann is now in the position to steam the letter open and read it herself.

But as ever the question is asked, “Bernice is a friend because…..?” (Other than Greg needs someone to humiliate Luann on all occasions. This is all getting so old.)

Luann friends don’t open other friends private letters. Bernice had the letter in panel 1 and 2 so are we to assume that Bernice put the letter down on the table.

SO, the Bernice haters, how about that?? LUANN’s behavior is atrocious here. No boundary or respect. She does not respect her privacy. Her life is so boring she is living through others which is pathetic. Scram, Luann. Leave Bernice be. That letter is none of your business.

Naturally, many “folks” are going to point out and criticize Luann’s nosiness concerning the contents of Walt’s letter to Bern.

“What’s IN Walt’s letter is NONE of Luann’s business,” they’ll scream.

But I’d like to point out:

    1) Luann was under NO obligation to actually deliver that letter, PERIOD. She could have just as easily tossed it in a nearby dustbin on the way home. OR not remembered that she even had that letter until three years later.

    2) She never once tried to take a peek at what’s in that letter “I Love Lucy” style, while the letter was in her possession, BEFORE handing it over.

    3) Besides, Bernice doesn’t “care” about Walt. So what’s the big deal?

    4) There wasn’t one single “thank you” from Bernice for delivering the letter.

    5) First Tara, a gal who’s meddled in Luann’s business, and now Bernice.I thought close-knit gal-pals SHARED their inner-most secrets?

Luann SHOULD have waited until Bernice was with Nil.

Then LOUDLY handed that letter over. ;-)

Of course it’s a private message. But say that after spending years meddling in Luann’s affairs, getting really angry when she had a secret and going so far as to spy on and tail her? Bernice is pure self-centeredness and hypocrisy! I hope they read the message together. Otherwise this friendship is totally one sided.

I am hopeful that this letter will not disrupt the Nil -Bernice relationship…. because I really like their relationship and I very much like Nil as well. Do not get me wrong, I like Piro/Walt as a character as well…. but would like him featured with someone else.

That said…. I am hopeful this will not disrupt….. but I do smoke a pipe…. so, I guess I live in a land of “pipe dreams” and fantasies.

When I was working full time, I worked the second shift quite a bit so I could never watch much TV during prime time. Due to circumstances over the years, I am now only watching “Breaking Bad” for the first time. Boy oh boy, what a show!!!!!!!!! It is terrific. As half the world already knows, the main character’s name in BB is WALTER. I am letting my imagination run away with me, but it just seems quite funny that Piro’s real name is WALTER! Is this just an innocent occurrence or does Piro have some sinister backstory? I am probably wrong, but I have always maintained that Piro’s is some kind of undercover agent for the DEA or something like that. I sure hope we get a complete answer about Piro and he does not just fade in the wind like a lot of other characters. Just having some fun with this story segment.

I find it rather odd how d*amn polarized folks are here when Bernice and Luann interact.

There is a sizable faction of folks who despise Bernice and everything that she does. They seem to equate her with the ruination of the world and suggest she is a wretched, horrible, non-friend to Luann.

Then there is another sizable faction of folks who dislike intensely Luann, and basically equate her with being “dumb” and “unfocused” and even have suggested that she is so “dull” that she should be written out of the comic.

    * * * *

I truthfully do not understand this extreme polarization of folks here in the comments. In my mind, both Bernice and Luann are WONDERFUL characters…. and each has been given a whole host of attributes that mirror many aspects of our own personalities.

IMO Bernice is a wonderfully bright, intelligent, thoughtful and caring individual…. who happens to be a tad “tightly wound” emotionally and psychologically. She always wants to do “good” but her perceptions of what constitutes “good” are sometimes a bit comically off kilter.

IMO, likewise, Luann is a very pleasant, enthused and integrated person…. who also sometimes shows flashes of insight. She happens to be a bit without direction in her life at times and is sometimes a bit out of focus on things…. but her character is kind-hearted and enjoyable.

Both characters represent a host of real life attributes we commonly see in ourselves and our family and friends. IMO the polarized commenters are being too absolutist….. too “black & white” about things and not seeing the subtlety and nuances of these stories.

Y’know earlier I thought Tara was being harsh about Luann involving herself with Piro being detrimental to him, but given that they aren’t even past “classmates” and Luann is ALREADY disrespecting his privacy… yeah, Tara’s right! Luann would be a bad friend/girlfriend to him. She’d definitely be prioritizing her own amusement over being supportive of Piro’s rough family life and possibly other baggage.

Her one track mind here is on, “I want dark, brooding badboy, any means necessary!” not “Piro did ask me to give it to HER. I should do what I told him I’d do and find out afterward if it’s something I’m allowed to know about.”

I can fully understand Bernice’s desire to read the letter privately. It is an unknown to her. Bernice does not do well with unknowns. I suspect that AFTER she has read the letter privately, she would eventually reveal some…. perhaps all of it to Luann.

If Piro/Walt confesses some romantic desire for Bernice….. then I suspect Bernice will then be adamantly discussing this situation with Luann because of the conflicting emotions Bernice likely would feel…. likely flattered and potentially a renewed interest in Piro/Walt…. but with the gnawing/conflicting issue of the deep fondness/romantic interest she has with Nil.

If Piro/Walt writes something other than some sort of romantic desire to Bernice…. I still think it is likely Bernice will reveal some degree of details to Luann….. but until we know more of the contents of the letter, I cannot guess what would transpire after that point.

If Luann actually does read the letter before Bernice (since Luann “lifted” it from Bernice)…. then regardless of the letter’s contents…. there will be an unfortunate argument between Bernice and Luann. AND, I have a feeling that in this argument, Luann will inadvertently let it “slip” that she is intrigued and romantically curious about Piro/Walt herself. Where that may lead beyond Bernice and Luann arguing further…. I cannot yet predict.

I don’t know why people keep saying Luann is going to steam open the letter. At this point she can just open it and read it if she wants. Never mind it is Bernice’s private message (Luann is entitled to everything, don’t you know).

Luann is being incredibly rude to Bernice, who is supposed to be her best friend. Bernice has spent years watching over Luann, and yes, prying, but her instincts are always right, because Luann is stupid and she does really stupid things – like today – acting as if she has a right to everything Piro – just because she has the hots for him. Never a good idea to date a best friends ex Luann.
