Finally Fridays just aren’t the same around here anymore. Anyone have any updates from Malta? Really hoping all is well, but starting to fear that may not be the case.

Funny how when they always misspell your name when writing something good about you, but seem to spell your name correctly when publishing the Police Arrest Reports.

Today, 10 March 2023, marks the fiftieth anniversary of the publication date of the first issue of Shiver and Shake. I think I have mentioned Shiver and Shake before when I have written about UK comics such as Buster which included a strip called “Buster – Son of Andy Capp”.

I was already reading The Beano, The Dandy and Whizzer and Chips among other comics when Shiver and Shake began. I soon started reading Shiver and Shake as well as Whizzer and Chips. Both comics used the format of a 2-in-1 comic with Chips inside Whizzer and Shake inside Shiver. In the case of Shiver and Shake, the names were taken from their star characters just as Buster was taken from a character originally billed as “Buster – Son of Andy Capp”. Shiver was a ghost who starred in a strip called “The Duke’s Spook” and Shake was an elephant whose strip was simply called “Shake”. The most successful Shiver and Shake characters were Frankie Stein – who was a revival of a character from the 1964-8 comic Wham – and Sweeney Toddler who was a new character. Both characters would go on to appear in Buster.

Frankie Stein continued in Whoopee! after Shiver and Shake became part of Whoopee and he would also appear in the 1975-6 comic Monster Fun which would later become part of Buster. Sweeney Toddler also continued in Whoopee! and became the front page character then Whoopee! merged with Whizzer and Chips and Sweeney Toddler continued as front page character in Whizzer and Chips. He would later appear with other Whizzer and Chips characters in Buster from 1990 to the beginning of 2000;

They did that to protect you identity, not that every doesn’t know anyway.

Something fishy with that report

They must have mistaken Andy for that fishy fellow, Clumsy, you know, the one who lives in BC.

Nothing takes the fame out of infamous like a misspelled name!

What a shame, Andy… Now they’ll never know it was you.
