You know those “walk-in showers” they advert? I called! They wanted $18,000 for a BASIC and I have to finish the room. I’d get the basic walk-in and a cheap door! Talked them down to $12,000 and threw them out the door!
Having heard the spiel before, he’s jumped ahead. I get lots of books read more quickly when the very familiar background stories are being covered. Just hit the opening sentence and skim the rest.
Whenever I hear an ad say, “Buy now and save!”, I say to myself, “How bout if I don’t buy, and I’ll save even more?” But my favorite ads are the ones that say, “Save up to 50% and more!” It really means nothing at all.
Uh, this is essentially a repeat from a few years ago. Earl told the kid he was a speed listener & that he finished listening to Opal well before she stopped talking.
After 40 years of marriage, I can anticipate most conversations. The other day I did a maintenance thing I always do. I knew she was going to ask if I did the other thing as well. As soon as she said, “Did you…” I said “Yes”. She laughed. A lot of our routine conversations don’t even need words. Just a look.
My Sunday paper begins with a panel that is missing from this online version. It has a smarmy looking guy, gesturing, and saying "TIREDOFEXORBITANTFEES?? HAVEIGOTADEALFORYOU!!!

With all the double-talkers around these days, one has to be a double-listener.

Priceless! When faced with someone talking like that I go beep…beep…beep. When they ask me what that is I say it is a word trying to get in edgewise.

Anyone who has raised teenagers should learn to listen fast. They can talk very fast!

Actually what Earl means is his nagging wife says the same thing to him over and over, so he doesn’t need to listen.
