Well considering who the third roommate is I wouldn’t expect things to be all peace and harmony. Kinda sad though. I like Gunther. I want him to be happy.
Bets may have the same problem that Rosa did. Rosa let Gunther know that it was always her that had to lead the way when it came to romance. Either that, or Gunther already knocked her up.
This could go in a couple of directions. 1. Gunther is tired of Betts’s “Drop everything you’re doing and do what I want … NOW!” or 2. Betts smells profit from someone else’s tea business and will find a PC way of getting some of what she hasn’t personally earned.” Or 3. Both. It may be an interesting week here.
Tiffany feels that something is wrong between Bets and Gunther and wants to help her, but she waited to be alone with her before asking anything; she’s a true friend. Maybe she already had this feeling for a while? That her favorite couple may be having problems and it’s probably due to Gunther and his oppressive parents? I think Tiffany will once again try to resolve everything by talking to Gunther, Irma and Al. But I also think Bets is tired and she’s starting to wonder again if it’s worth continuing. I hope Gunther’s side of the situation will also be shown.
Does the tea have an attribute that can help Bets with either Mr. and, Mrs. Gray, Gunther’s seeing inability to stand up for himself (and, Bets,) or, any other thing that is upsetting Betts?
I’m projecting, being such a Bets and Gunnie defender, that this foreboding issue is really between Al and Irma and Bets, Gunther being in the middle, causing an issue, but not between how they feel about each other. Will, “loved” Tiffany come in to mollify things? One of a universe of possibilities I’m afraid, but that’s because I am projecting.
Maybe Bets has grown tired of Al and Irma not liking her, when she has always been nice to them. She knows they loved having Tiffany there, and might have even approved of Tiffany and Gunther having a physical relationship, but they hide behind their “morals” when it comes to her. She’s not used to being treated like a second-class citizen and shouldn’t have to put up with it. Time for her to stay at the dorm and refuse to go to that house until things change.
So, Tiffany has grown probably more than anyone in this strip (with Gunther and Brad tied for second, Bern in third). She’s also getting what seems to be the vast majority of the strip time.
Whereas Luann is the exact same person she’s always been. No growth, no interest.
At what point does the strip need to be renamed to “Tiffany?”
Heck, even “Robotman” had the sense to be renamed to “Monty.”
Bets if Gunther hasn’t talked to Irma about being more respectful, I’d say pitch him! He’s not worth her time if he can’t do the bare minimum. Especially on something so simple. I feel like Bets has her moments where I’m not a fan, but even I have to throw some shade at Gunther if he’s letting his mom give his girlfriend the cold shoulder in such a blatant way even after Bets told him it bothered her.
And I really hope that Tiffany isn’t the one to do the interceding on Bets’ behalf, since Al and Irma adore her. It would be so obnoxious for Gunther to wimp out again.
It’s performance anxiety. Gunther can’t do it while knowing his roommate has a glass up against the wall. Well, who could, I say!Bets wants more. She’s a thrill seeker.
I swear I haven’t cheated by popping into LVLAX’s Luann Party, where all the answers to all this strip’s questions are laid out like a side of the King’s Deer on the feasting table!
I would say Bets is simply frustrated that even though Gunther is allowing her to stay there (and I do believe these two are sharing a bed) he is still upset and anxious and refusing to stand cup to his mom. But I think if he ever DID confront her and threaten to move out (with serious intentions to do so) his mom would relent and allow Bets to stay. She wouldn’t be happy but she would eventually accept it in time.
I think at this point it’s fair to say the whole subplot with Stef and the $600 loan (and how to make her pay it back) is officially forgotten by all. That was a week well spent, huh?
I think this may relate to how Irma and Al are treating her. they may have discovered that Bets has been staying over and they are now labeling her out as a hustler; it may be that Gunther is not standing up for her as he should. The look on her face in the last panel tells me that tears are on the way.
Uh-oh. It would appear that Tiffany is correct in sensing that something is wrong in the Bets-Gunther relationship. Maybe Bets has become bored with him (she wouldn’t be the first)….
We know AL& Irma have a problem with Bets’ & Gunther’s cohabitation! It can’t be that they found them out or Bets’ angst would be deeper in this interaction.
I think GnK will go with Bets having second thoughts about the relationship. The realization not living up to the ideal perhaps. That would allow Tiffany to make one of her iconic “love interventions.” Something involving the tea, perhaps. Even a group Tea with Al, Irma, Bets, and Gunny!

Uh Oh… Trouble in paradise at the Gulag??
I bet Mr. Grey isn’t happy that Tiff moved out and is making their lives miserable. Bets may be spending more time back at the dorm.
Hmmm.. Is it possible Gunther isn’t doing well with having Bets there so much?

So what is the problem? Has there been some knocking on the door from next door, or does Gunther need some of that tea?

I think there are TWO breakups looming: Kip and Stef’s, plus Gunnie and Bets’.
IMO, Gunther should return to Peru and Rosa.

1. Gunter and Bets have sex.
2. Bets gets out of bed, dresses, goes parks the car around the block.
3. Bets walks back, comes in and locks the door, undresses for another round of sex with Gunter, and finds Gunter’s fast asleep.
4. Bets has plenty of time to think things over.

The relationship is in trouble.
Either
1. They’re fighting over the future.
2. They’re fighting over the present.
3. They’re fighting over Gunther’s ability to rise to the occasion when she whips out that camera to “record their love.”
