There actually have been flights to nowhere for various reasons. Once in November I was seriously considering flying a deep discount fare to Japan in late December just to kick my status to the top level, but some stuff came up and I had to fly enough anyway that I didn’t need to do it. I would have gotten off the plane, but only to walk to the next gate and board the return flight.
