Can we just take a moment to appreciate the glory of Ora Zell’a tiny outstretched toes, with the perfect pink toe beans? How does Georgia do this?? Her technique is awesome!
“Rain is tapping against the windows and changing the light inside.” Beautiful. I can almost hear the sound of an old clock on the wall, ticking away the seconds as you drift into dream land.
Spoilers for the Ringo award for best humor comic (in which BCN went up against, among others, an illustrated book of Weird Al Yankovic songs) but Weird Al won. Kind of hard to go up against someone so iconic and with such an impressively lengthy career.
has a strip up right now claiming that summer ended on September 1st but that fall is still three weeks away (and in the popup says that the space in between is autumn but that fall and autumn are the opposite way around in the UK, sort of like how “butter beans” and “lima beans” are one way around in some places but the reverse in others).
Used to be a leather goods store near me that would close every year “for the summer” and put up a sign “back on August 1st”. And we’re still getting triple-digit highs next week.
Spring has started here, and the ice is breaking up on the Brisbane River. The snow is slowly retreating up to Mt Coot-tha. The magpies are ready to defend their territories. Our local pair know me and know I am harmless. I always talk to them when I see them. But one swooped on Her Supremacy this morning. No contact. He flew right past my knee and clacked his beak at Her, but She was busy with grass and did not deign to notice. I persuaded Her to come back inside.

IN THE SAME DAY!
Not quite there, but, our temps took a huge dive off of 85°-90° down to our typical 70°s range, just this past week or so. The drop used to happen around the start of Sept, but the last 3-4 years, it’s been closer to the end of Sept, so, it’s a huge relief to have it happen now.
But when does Fuzzy Blanket Season officially begin?
The CN reporters have talked about FBS before in September, January, and even in March. So is there an official date or is it dependent on weather conditions? Does an abundance of Pumpkin Spice bring it on earlier?
It’s been between 40 and 50 here in the mornings in mid-Michigan where I am and between 70 and 80 in the afternoons. Right now at almost 8am, I’m looking out the window and 270 feet to the road, we can’t see it, it’s so froggy out. Weird weather this time of year. Every year.
There was a nice glimpse of Georgia and the adorable children at the Ringo Awards. If you want to see them, It’s on You Tube, Ringo Awards 2023 at Minute 59.14.
I love today’s images though it makes me want to go nap but I’m eager to get back to the vast story arc. It’s obvious now that the great mole war is about to wind down. I, for one, will be sorry to see it end. It’s been great to have so many other critters introduced plus old ones referenced that we haven’t seen for a while. Just from a creative standpoint, this has been a stunning achievement.
Puckmosis: After the story of Meowses and Growl Tiger, I think I’m ready for a cup of tea and a pumpkin scone.
Beatrixia: We’ll have to wait. Thomios and the kitchen crew are taking a nap.
Puck: Will they be long?
Bea: They started about four hours ago, so they should be up in another hour or so.
Puck: Let’s go to the kitchen anyway. Thommy usually leaves some snacks out for hungry kitties and other sentient people.
Enter Lupinium
Lupinium: It’s time to prepare for tomorrow’s kittygarden tumbling class. Anyone care to join me in a round of zoomies?
Puck: Why not? A bit of exercise will be good.
Bea: Let’s zoom on down to the stables. I haven’t seen the my horse friends in ages. Avenger and Emma have been taking things to Afar and Away. And how is my filly friend Diana?
Lupinium: I’ve been teaching her some horse tricks. She’s a natural.
Zooming Down to the Stables
Diana Filly: Bea! And Uncle Puck and Uncle Loopy! How are you?
Bea: Great! I’ve missed you!
Diana: And I’ve missed you! Uncle Loopy has been teaching me how to jump over obstacles. Wanna see?
Lupinium: Now remember what I taught you.
Diana: Never jump over an obstacle that’s too high. And always know what’s in front of you.
Sometime Later
Emma Peelia: Diana, time for supper!
Diana: I’ve gotta go. Will I see you soon?
Bea: Sure. This week I hope.
Puck: We should head back to the palace. Thomios and the kitchen crew should be awake by now.
Sadly, it’s going to be in the mid-80s here today. We’ll hit temperatures over 90 quite a few times before November. We’re on the eastern edge of the SF Bay Area where the Bay has no effect on the climate.
Where I live, we’ve had triple-digit highs most days since the start of June. Today’s predicted high: 103°. So when I read today’s strip, I thought, Cool weather? I wish!
About an hour ago I started hearing thunder. And here came the rain! And the temp has dropped down to 80° – yes 80°!
Once again, Georgia has produced a strip that matches the weather, a strip she drew allll these days in advance!

I’m singin’ at the rain,
Just singin’ at the rain,
What a glorious feeling,
I’m happy again!
I’m laughing at clouds
So dark up above,
The time has come for a nap that I love!
Let the stormy clouds chase
Everyone in the place,
Come on with your rain,
I’ve got a smile on my face!
The time has come for a nap that I love!
A happy buffoon.
Just singin’, singin’ at the rain!
Why am I smiling and why do I sing?
Why does September seem sunny as Spring?
Why do I get up each morning to start
Happy and head-up with joy in my heart?
Why is each new task a trifle to do?
Because I am living a life full of you!
Hey, I’m singin’ at the rain,
Just singin’ at the rain,
What a glorious feeling,
I’m happy again!
I’m laughing at clouds
So dark up above,
The time has come for a nap that I love!
Let the stormy clouds chase
Everyone from in the place,
Come on with your rain,
I’ve got a smile on my face!
I’ll walk through the room,
Like a happy buffoon
Just singin’, singin’ at the rain!

There are those who can parodize
But BCN is Paradise!

We all love you, Georgia Dunn!

Through sun and storm and rain and hail
The Power of the Paw will still prevail
Love and joy to every one,
From the pen of Georgia Dunn!

There would not be news from the Nile
Your cartoon shines like the sun
You are the best, Georgia Dunn!

Reading at home Sunday books with my babies
It starts to rain, it begins to pour
After hot soup the warm sleepies kick in
I feel a shiver run up my spine
I feel the warmth of a cup so fine
Ooh, I read chapters in the rain
Dozing so unplanned with the ones I love
Ooh, how I love the rainy days
And the comfy way I feel inside
