Did Ohman get stuck in an Ikea store overnight or something? We’ve actually bought a few Ikea things over the years and what we bought were quite solid and nice looking. We did NOT buy “put together with Allen wrench” stuff though. And I DID cut the table top down to fit our space: Great that it was solid (maple?) so I didn’t have to hide the cut edge.
And we still have a little sofa which is now worn through after it lasted more than 40 years. The problem is: we can not find a similar one with the same functions. And no one we found compares to the quality of the old one. Only flimsy looking things. Ikea seems also not as good as it used to be.
I live in France and all my kitchen cabinets came from IKEA. They’re about 20 years old now and I’m quite happy with them. Are they trendy and fashionable? No, but I consider my kitchen a workshop, not an art gallery. The chairs on my glassed in porch are also from IKEA and they’re just what I needed – comfortable and affordable.
Homelessness / Housing shortage / Vacant offices and storefronts. It seems like there OUGHT to be a single solution to all three problems, but it remains elusive.
I wish the new IKEA well, but there’s literally no parking there (on top of that, that portion of Market is closed to all but busses and taxis), which seems odd for a furniture/furnishings store. I guess their model is going to be based on home delivery, but if that’s the case it seems like most people would likely just shop online in the first place, so you wouldn’t need a brick-and-mortar location at all. Are the meatballs really THAT big of a draw?
Oddly enough the last set of book cases I got (replacements of a set that were destroyed in a flood in the condo) had to be put together with a hammer an nails. I have a ton of allen wrenches left over from previous purchases but not needed this time.
Idea names are all taken from people and places in Sweden. The company name itself is an acroym:Ingvar Kamprad, from Elmtaryd farm near Agunnaryd village.
We bought a bunk bed from IKEA when our grandkids were little – 5 and 3 if memory serves. They outgrew it, but when some friends moved, we dismantled it and they took it for their son. He now uses it for HIS child.
Think how long they’d last if they were well built/S
My wife and I have been a loyal IKEA (pronounced, the company says, as “e-kea”) for more the 30 years. My desk, the cabinets for my stereo and shelves for my LPs and CDs came from there. There were times my wife and I drove 250 miles to shop at IKEA; most of our dishes and wine glasses also came from there. IKEA is fabulous but, admittedly, much of its furniture is not built to last forever. To this day, we drive to our newer, more convenient IKEA and indulge in lunch.

In the next country west, Norwegian speed bumps warning signs read “Fartsdumper.”

I believe this has to do with the Autonomous car in San Francisco that drove directly into some freshly poured Concrete…and had to be dragged out.

If you have to make fun of other people’s language to make a point, you just might be running out of ideas.

If you get a bed from IKEA, you will really have to make your bed.

Inte roligt. Okunnig om riktig svenska.
And FWIW, I’ve actually been in an IKEA store in Sweden, but since I don’t live in Sweden, I didn’t buy anything that needed assembly.

Never been to an IKEA. Now I want to go.
