Ms. Libris looks less “fun-loving” than she did in the yearbook picture.
The Lit is The Choate Literary Magazine, but the title on the cover now just says “Lit.” Gertrude Stein made an address to Choate students which was published in The Lit in 1935 with her permission under the title “How Writing Is Written.” It has since been reprinted many times in various places. Edward Albee, famous for _Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf" and other plays, had his first play printed in The Lit.
She looks rather imposing of a figure, not the pretty coy coed of 1985. Hopefully she is not the killer. She looks the educated type who may be able to help Tracy get closer to finding the killer. Panel 3 Tracy looks dashingly handsome. ;-p
After the introductions, I guess they will get to the basics between bites of food. Probably not! Good manners say you don’t talk with your mouth full.
She’s in charge of chemical firm. I’m betting that fact ties into the plot in some way. I’ve got no idea how, but am still thinking it might be more than, “Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.”
There has been a lot of ancient tech that was lost, maybe the works had details for some dye formula that has been forgotten over the centuries. Books are too new to tell us what the Soma of the Vedas was, although a lot of plants/fungi have been nominated as candidates.
2-NORMAN DESMOND: I’ll pick up the tab if you take care of my speeding tickets.
3-DT: DEAL! MORE WINE GARCON!
4-NORMAN: HEY GARCON! MAKE IT A BOTTLE OF RIPPLE THIS TIME! I’m just an Assistant States Attorney. I don’t get the big money bribes yet. Wait. Be cool, Tracy – she’s here… WOOT WOOOOO!HEY XAVIEE! REMEMBER ME FROM CHOATE?
5-…IT’S DESSY! POP A SQUAT! TRACY WAS JUST LEAVING! DT: Huh? But…wine…?
Dick Tracy and Owen Cormac Desmond are dining at the very private, very toney Choate Club in downtown Tracyville, and bantering background on Xaviera Libris, when…, she makes An Entrance, looking very button-downed and domineering. This is a prelude to…what?…

Literary. Extraordinary. Rare manuscripts she knows
O. Cormac recommends her. Recollecting her he glows.
Choate alumni ’85. You’ll find her in The Brief
She’s sure to lend her expertise, help end this deadly grief.
Here at the exclusive club, she enters like a Queen
Finery from head to toe, luxurious her sheen.
Classy. Regal. So refined. Thus, many heads do turn
Tracy’s mind is on the case. So much he needs to learn.

“Olympic alternate”. Probably for the fencing team. En garde Tracy!

I post late on yesterday’s strip where I hypothesised that the reason for Dick was smiling was because he recognised the her name from the log book.

The speed that this story is moving at is incredible! Why, it’d DEFINITELY come in a distant second in a footrace with a sloth!

Well, the betting odds on whether or not Ms. Libris is the mastermind of all this just changed dramatically.
I also think Eric Costello is starting to make an impact…
