[nerd alert] The manager, Macarthur, was Uncle Duke’s aide-de-camp/stooge when Duke was Ambassador to American Samoa under President Ford. The real Hunter Thompson had made some reference to the idea and Gary ran with it.
In all seriousness, many of the beaches in the South Pacific are strewn with garbage and other crap that washes up. A Marine visited Tarawa to study the battlefield and the invasion beaches were literally covered with bottles, nets, plastic toys, garbage bags, etc, etc.
Reminds me of a pamphlet I saw for Dominican Republic. The blue waters in the photos were actually brown. Clean, but less appealing and hardly anyone went swimming
this has been a problem in Hawaii for quite some time, as i was advised at the MAC airfield to avoid the beaches (1970s) and read an online blurb about why you don’t see locals at certain beaches. heh.

MacArthur moved from Samoa to Bora Bora.

Easy fix. Have the ceremony at night and let someone smoke at the sewage access point… Mood lighting.

But I thought they’d flown to Pago Pago in 1999, not the UK in 2023?

Just before you went swimming. Don’t sweat it.

Took the kids to the beach one day. Beauty of a day. Empty beach.
Had a big storm day before, more than the drains could handle, do the math.

MacArthur returns, just a tad heavier than when he was Gov Duke’s factotum

The smell will be well concealed by the frangipani blossoms. Mostly. Just watch where you step.
