We have a very small apartment and both of our daughters took up violin when they were in school. Thankfully they were both actually pretty good. I still remember one time when they were practicing together. As luck would have it, one was “1st Violin” and the other was “2nd” so we got to listen to harmonic violin music. It was lovely.
A woman we know has a son in junior high who has taken up the trombone. She says he enjoys it and hopes he continues. Personally, I think any of the arts are a vital part of a well rounded education.
I always find these “beginners on instruments sounding bad” jokes a bit cringy. We all started out sounding bad on our chosen instruments, and too many kids get discouraged after the family makes fun of the the sounds they’re getting and then the kid quits.
In this case I think just a Halloween noise maker would have made her just as happy. She seems to just want to make noise not learn a musical instrument.
I had to practice my trumpet in my room, with the door shut. But that was mostly due to the fact my brother’s cat loved sleeping in my empty case. She wasn’t fazed by my honking, just loved the nice soft forbidden cat bed.

This is why some people own 2 houses. One house to live in and the trombone house.

Next month, it slips Darryl’s mind to make the payment on the trombone and the thing gets repossessed. Sorry Zoe.

Well at least it is marginally better than those ghastly plastic flute things in primary school.

Just tell me where you’re going to practice, and I can make of point of… going to the next county.

Darryl – “No Zoe, your practice is to be confined to your room where your music booklet is.” He then installs his earplugs.

Best invest in some noise canceling headphones…(I’m thinking you’re gonna need the industrial quality!)
