But that 24,901 mile circumference is only at the equator. Where Frank and Ernie are now must be a land of green grass, rolling hills, and absolutely no trees. But where?
Reminds me of a fantasy story by Fritz Leiber, a well-known SF/fantasy writer for most of the mid-20th century. It was titled “Gonna Roll the Bones.” The last sentence was “Then he (Joe Slattermill, the protagonist) turned and headed straight for home, but he took the long way, around the world.” It was just one of several weird things in the story.

Somehow, ‘All roads lead to Mercville’ just doesn’t have the same feel to it.

Judging from the shadow, it’s high noon and they are facing East so if they turn left, better bring warm coats.

I guessed that “Mercville” is an allusion to Gerardus Mercator, but I might be projecting.
