Being hostile, aggressive, violent or threatening to others. Feeling no guilt about harming others. Doing dangerous things with no regard for the safety of self or others. Being irresponsible and failing to fulfill work or financial responsibilities.
Choate Alumni Notes: Xaveria Libris (85) died in an accidental fall in her baronial estate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Association of Serial Killers.
Exit Ms. Libris. I can hardly wait for the next hold on to your seat cushion adventure of Tracy. Well, first the MCU will analyze this case over cups of coffee and take-out from the neighborhood deli.
The main problem I had with this story is that while it looked good as a script but if failed when it was put in the daily strip, i.e two/ three panels a day. It appears to me, and I could be wrong, Eric is a long form writer and has possibly little to no experience to dailies, I believe a great example of this was to me the best of his writing in the Sunday’s where there was more opportunity for more details of the story laid out. Where with the dailies he hadn’t grasped the combining of recapping the previous day, today’s telling of the story and a preview of tomorrows strip in the writing of a daily, admittedly only a few have mastered it.
Eric’s story would be a perfect story if the publishers of Dick Tracy were to publish a traditional weekly/monthly comic or a “graphic novel”.
The reason I think that Eric is more suited to long form writing than short writing is I’ve read and I’m sure you have as well read a short story that was quite obvious a truncated story and vice versa where long form story was, could’ve been a short story.
The reason why I’m not so hard on Eric like some others here are, and the criticism was warranted at times, is because of the previous experience that Wichita had with the DT bosses and the mess that was. In fact there a couple of days where it looked like the strip was out of order, most notable where DT went back to look at the log book in which Ray Toler * agreed with me that it made him look inept.
The only real complaint I have with the story was not showing XL’s face at the beginning, if the premise of the story was that the reader knew who it was and we witness DT gathering the evidence, coming to the conclusion of who it is and brings them to justice – or what we had here.
OT MOAN: I’m 400+ pges into editing MORABU, the second book in my current series and, while it’s a straight adventure, I keep adding light touches, then having to pull them. It’s *ONE of those day. I’m currently tying to weed out the female lead’s referring to the male lead as ‘Tree Frog,’ referring to an early comment that he has the common sense of a tree frog (he’d just concocted horrible plan).
*The sewers in the neighborhood are being blasted with air all day to ‘clean them out’. We had to cover both toilets with plastic to avoid possible kickback. I have this hideous recurring mental image of being blasted through the roof.
Tracy is not so much truly philosophizing as he trying to rationalize for himself what has transpired. He seems to be struggling to come up with the notion that Xaviera Libris was a rare book-obsessed sociopath, justifying doing anything at all on order to achieve the desired “proper” outcome; namely, that the rare book or manuscript [what ever happened to that Aristotle manuscript that was mentioned and then forgotten?] should be part of her magnificent library. —A hubris for her collection, GOAT!

Libris should have spent a week at Gweedo’s Goat Farm, that would have zapped all the overconfidence out of all her iceberg bones!

Good morning™, reverent reflections !
Owen laments the waste of a life. Tracy states cold hard fact.

Well drawn today! Curious why the person next to Tracy has his face blacked out but not the rest of him? Tracy has never looked better though!

1-OWEN: I’m taking off my ill-fitting hat in reverence for the dearly departed.
2-DT: You referring to my hat? Yes – it’s resting in pieces. HAR HAR! Some black humor to lighten the mood! OWEN: Tracy? DT: Yes Owen?
OWEN: SHAD-UP! SHADENUP!
