This is just silly…so much for the idea that Dez would be a good therapist (and I’ve said that!). Bets is at a crossroads in her life: Is she going to go back to social media (maybe not in such an extreme way) or is she going to stick with Gunther, even though they’re not all that compatible? Can she do both? Should she?

I think Bets needs a combination of Bernice and Dez. Please send her to Nancy stat! Bernice lacks impersonal skills and is too academic and Dez is too New Age. Bets needs a normal person with plenty of common sense and life experience.

Dez is a lady out of time. She should have come of age in the 60s where her “hippy flower power” and “crystal auras” were more accepted.

Actually there’s some truth to what Dez says in the middle panel. For Bets social media and fan approval was everything. Take all of that away and there’s this huge void which is what Bets is feeling right now.

In the large city where I live there are kids who are killed because they are dared by social media into doing dangerous things e.g. riding on the outside of subway train cars. The lengths that young people will go for ‘fan approval’ is incredible. Hopefully Bets will continue on this path of not allowing herself to care more about all these “hearts” and “likes” to the exclusion of life itself.

Life always feels strange when a drastic change has been made. Bets will get through it.

It’s really nice to see how much Dez cares about Bets. I don’t remember seeing her so worried before. She really is the best of the friends. I think Bets could go back using social media if she decide some rules, maybe together with Gunther. Or she could try continue living without it and see if the urge to post facts about her life will slowly disappear. Personally, I hope she and Gunther go back being influencers, but with rules and leaving room for other interests too.

Does G&K think NO ONE here remembers that Bets was earning a good income with her social media site? Or is that going to just go down the rabbit hole they love to use so much? Shouldn’t she be looking for a job? That would give her something constructive to do instead of all this whining stupidity.

I still don’t see what was wrong with her being an on line influencer. She was good at it and she loved it. She was earning good money. If she let it occupy too much of her life (according to Gunther), they could have found a happy medium where both of them were happy. This way it’s just Gunther deciding what’s going to happen. I have a big objection to Gunther and his spoiled attitude being the only opinion that gets considered. He’s not that special.

Meditate for two hours and call me in the morning.

Maybe the thought of spending your life with Gunther is making you cranky.

Bets is in Business school. She’s an attractive woman of color, is getting a good degree, and needs to get back on track. Bets is exactly what major companies are looking for: motivated, smart, and driven. If Bets got hired into a major company her starting pay could be in excess of $75,000 per year starting. If she got her MBA then she’d be great executive material with pay in excess of $250,000 per year. $2K per month is chicken feed. Indeed, it’s NOT the aggregate taxes per month on $75K yearly pay check.

I know she’s making an adjectival form of “aura,” but “aural” means your ears. “Aural energies all clogged up” sounds like she has excess ear wax.

She needs Gunther to unplug her pipes.

Bets needs to take up karaoke to fill that empty hole in her life because we all know that Gunther can’t fill her hole.

TikTok is the new Hollywood. Just as abusive, just as use them until they flame out, then throw them away. Fame is one of the most addictive drugs there is. Bets is going through withdrawal.

I suppose today is a reminder that as well-intentioned as she is, someone like Dez is absolutely unbearable in real life.

Bets is being metaphorically challenged. I hope she makes it through all that term-oil!

I consider an acupuncturist a metaphysical plumber, but I doubt they will go that route. I don’t believe Bets is missing the money, but, yes, the affirmations. Whatever her background, she seems very insecure.

I like Bets’ response to Dez’s very harsh judgemental insults. Wow. At least she said that to her face.

Tender touches and soulful looks eye to eye. I think a new romance may be brewing.

Dez is kind, and knows her roommate well. I hope she can help Bets find a happy balance between media and real life.

Talk about malnourished. She’s been totally fed by “likes” and approval from her “fans” by the time she was away from Gunther. But Dez could have told her so without that New Age psychobabble.

Dez, MYOB. Bets is the mess the Evanses just had to turn her into, but you’ve always been a mess.

This ties into one of my personal life philosophies, “the opposite of a bad thing isn’t automatically good, and the opposite of a good thing isn’t automatically bad.” In this case she was a social media addict who put everything online and it alienated her real life friends and loved ones (which we can see she has precious few of.) But totally quitting social media entirely and becoming an internet hermit isn’t a healthy life choice either, it’s leaving her unfulfilled and without purpose. If she kept on this path she might actually have grown to resent Gunther and the other people in her life for taking her away from her fame.

Yesterday BJShipley1 asked, “Is Bets wearing medical scrubs?” You have to go back to January 8 to see the outfit for the first time. In this arc I saw no moment calling for a change of clothes. I don’t always see strips so far in advance that I can ensure continuity in clothing, but I lucked out in this case because Greg didn’t draw her wearing something clearly different than she did on January 8.
