Drinking at least eight glasses of water a day will help avoid those stones. Drink more during the hot summer months. Also helps prevent leg cramps while sleeping in bed.
Recommendation, for both kidney stones and gall stones: an herbal concoction from South America, called Chanca Piedra. Ask at your local vitamin store.
Had two over a year apart. That was lucky. What I couldn’t believe was that the stone was smaller than a grain of black pepper – almost invisible without the scope – but covered with spines. Such a little thing to take down a person. But considering that germs are much smaller and more frequently active and deadly, it isn’t too high on the list of human ailments.
But the sign has it right. When the stone finally passes, the relief felt in the body and mind is like no other. It isn’t even close to any other similar situation that most have experienced. No wonder women call it payback for pregnancy.
I’ve had one kidney stone big enough to notice. According to others who’ve had them, I got off easy. It was only mildly debilitating The doctor asked me a bunch of questions and they made me realize that I have been producing and passing them all along.
Now when I feel that little twinge in my back or gas pain in my side or vague achiness in my groin, I double my already adequate water intake.
I beg to differ. In my experience (and I have a natural condition that makes me a stone-former), absolutely nothing feels better than the total cessation of pain when the stone is finally out! All’s very well indeed once it ends!
Years ago the Flagstaff paper, the Sun, had a short article about a local preacher who had the misfortune of having some hundred plus kidney stones in a year – I recall it was an average of more than one per day.

Medical students dread the test on kidney stones.
It’s the hardest one to pass.

Man walks into a bar
Bartender “Do you want to enter our drawing? We’re giving away a set of kidney stones.”
Man responds “Nah, I’ll pass”

I’ve heard that passing a kidney stone hurts worse than childbirth. Does anyone who’s done both have any comment?

I’ve only had one. It was a round type, about like two BBs pressed together. I sweated and gasped a bit, but overall I knew I was one lucky dude.

Thankfully, I (thus far) haven’t had a kidney stone.
