So.. she just liked Bernice because she tore into Brad?

That’s not much of a foundation for a friendship. I guess it’s gone full circle. The way she used to treat Brad is now close to the way she treats Luann (always snarky).

How is it that TJ still looks like he’s around 20 yrs old? ;)

These kids are flipping like a dime; I have whiplash just trying to keep up with whatever mood or emotion they’re projecting.

Bernice treated Brad why back when she was 6 years old, the same way she treats Luann in present day.

Nothing interesting happening in the current timeline. Why not have a flashback?

I begin to understand why Luann decided B was her friend…

TJ had more teeth than the Osmonds, even back then.

So Luann you befriended Bernice just because Brad decided he didn’t like her. Sheesh. Then you spent the next 14 years listening to her snarks. Is it worth it? Is that what you’re writing about? Why you stayed friends with Bernice? I know many in here want to know because like Brad, they don’t like Bernice either

L and B used to be great BFFs. B wasn’t a b**ch back then. She was a great character. That all changed once they went to college.

Some older siblings are a pain, and Luann was happy to see Bernice stand up to Brad. Now to look back at myself from sixth through twelfth grade, having a best friend who Bernice reminds me so much of, I wonder why I stayed close friends with her for so long. Here I am suggesting a fictional character find a new friendship when I kept such a friendship for six full years, and I can’t even make sense as to why.

At least Bernice knows how to deal with Brad!

I thought this TJ guy had just shown up, out of nowhere, just a few years ago. (Oh, well, in Comic Book la-la land, one is, as Mr. Rod Serling would have said, “one is traveling in another dimension of time and space”)And, Bernice was just as an obnoxious little brat, then, as she is now.

Bully Brad will get pay back in the form of Shannon in a few more years.

Whenever I see old strips with Brad, the more convinced I am that Toni is an angel sent from Heaven.

And that’s all it took for these two to be best buds.

Sheesh, Luann came cheap.

Looks like ugly Brad was the common denominator for L&B’s friendship.

Of course, Brad definitely had to be around his little sister. Watching what she do was probably something his parents said him to do and being 10 years old, he does it by insulting her. Thank to this, Luann is fascinated by Bernice’s offensive ability. Maybe is the first time she seen a peer capable of silencing her brother and it must be said, Bernice was awesome. Having her as a friend will be fun and she will be able to protect her from nuisances. The problem will begin when the insults will be directed at Luann.

And there’s the reason why Luann was using a bush as a toilet!

Luann may have seen Brad using the bushes.

So there is like a 4 year difference between Luann and Brad right? So he would be 10 in this? Why does he look like he’s 16?

“Want to be friends?” I think it’s kind of sad that Bernice wants a friend so badly that she asks that of a random stranger she caught peeing.

So that’s why they became friends?

This explains her present situation with the ever negative Bernice. Luann liked Bernice because they both disliked Brad. A very low threshold for a friendship.

What is going on with Brad’s mouth in the middle panel? I know the white stuff is oreo cream. But what is the black part that looks like a sideways mouth?

Why is Bernice so rude to a complete stranger? Even if Brad is being a jerk, a normal child would not be this rude to someone they didn’t know.

Shouldn’t Brad and TJ be around 9 years old here? Why do they look like they’re 16?

Oh wait: this story is being told by Luann, who’s an idiot.

Since Brad and TJ came walking by, I make the presumption that they’re all near the Degrut’s home. Thus, why was Luann in the bushes whizzing away? I know, ilogic in a comic, go figure.

Oh, so it started with “the enemy of my enemy is my friend”.

Is TJ immortal, he looks exactly the same as the modern version?

TJ looks the same now as an adult.

(Not always, but common enemies have resulted in some strange alliances.)

I guess this arc is a reminder of why Luann puts up with Bernice.

The only way that this arc will make any sense is if it ends with Delta’s return. Luann and Bernice obviously need someone to balance them out.

Wouldn’t you feel sorry for Luann Husband, her longtime annoying friend didn’t like what he was saying are doing to Luann.

I didn’t realize Brad and TJ went back that far.

How old were Brad and TJ during this time period?

Love bombing; an act of manipulation by gaining the targets confidence by a grand gesture or cherished or expensive gift.

So… TJ is just.. immmortal. I mean i’m perfectly fine with it btu it makes some strips creepy in retrospect.

For a 6 yr old having an ally against a big brother is all it takes for a friendship.

I a six year kid’s fashion, Bernice defended her new found friend, Luann. This shows AGAIN that Bernice is a true friend and a great BFF for Luann.

Folks continually misconstrue Bernice’s actions into being “mean” or “bad” or any other negative thing they can muster up in their mind. BUT, the reality is that Bernice’s supposed “biting” comments are given to have Luann look deeper inside herself so that she can more clearly see herself and either embrace her current action/behavior as what she wants….. or modify her action/behavior to become more how she would want it to be. Bernice serves as a friend to REFLECT a bigger view back to Luann of what she is doing in her life.

Hang on. Luann is six, so how old is Brad?? He’s already got stubble on his face???

Actually, I think the thing that bothers me the most is that Brad and Luann seemed to hate each other when they were kids. My brother and I were pretty close (only a year apart). He never treated me the way Brad treated Luann as kids. I don’t remember him ever calling me a nasty name.

Bernice telling off Brad is the basis of her and Luann’s friendship? Stranger things have happened I guess. TJ looking the same then as now, must mean he has natural Botox.

No (WV), Bern is coming to Luann’s defense against a seemingly bullying brother. Luann sees her as an ally.

Hope this isn’t turning into variations on a theme by Ernie Pook’s Comeek. Flashbacks to elementary school do not fare well on a long term basis.

I wonder if Bernice is supposed to be reading the essay over Luann’s shoulder…and what she might take away from how she’s portrayed. Maybe this is a way to turn her around so she’ll be nicer to Luann.

TJ is creepy. I don’t trust him. He’s always smiling. He pulled a huge insurance fraud. He’s a bad guy

Bernice, like my granddaughter told an annoying boy, get lost creep. Love her!

Bernice isn’t as bad as so many commentors say.
