I don’t know why this is a problem. We give tax refunds to people who never paid taxes. We give Social Security payments to people who never paid into the system. We give illegals all manner of free money – in actual cash and in services. So it’s not that big of a leap to give unemployment benefits to someone who never worked. The Dems will be forcing us to do that next.
You have to pay into it before you can make any claim. You employer DOES NOT pay in to it, it’s taken from what would be your wages. Your employer paying into it is an accounting trick. They would not have the money to pay into it if you did not work to make the product to be sold.
Here’s a myth-buster about unemployment benefits if you work in Virginia.
“The Virginia Employment Commission (VEC) administers the unemployment insurance program that provides temporary financial assistance to individuals who become unemployed through no fault of their own. Benefits are paid through taxes on employers covered under the Virginia Unemployment Compensation Act. No part of the cost of your unemployment benefits is deducted from your earnings.”
I know this to be true. My wife owned two 7-Eleven and out of the few employees she fired, only one person qualified for benefits.
