Could Pucky be more adorable? A romance novel kind of kitty. As Elvis rages against the vampire viking cowboy prince and a feisty mermaid lady-doctor. This could not be more purrfect.
ah, yes, the rerun we’ve been expecting. This has got to be the weirdest book Georgia has ever created. I can see Danielle Steele & other romance novelists “borrowing” these ideas for their next books.
For more romance novel fun, check out offerings by Erin Ross, who is really my sister, Shirley Tallman. She also wrote The Babysitter’s Seduction which appears on Lifetime every so often.
I recall that Tess Gerritson, one of the better crime fiction writers, began with a crime focussed romance novels. Apparently there were a lot of bodies…
My favorite line: “And it went to medical school!”
I read a couple of of romance novels. Did not care for them… which is why I like comics. They are more realistic. Even with cats wearing clothes and talking into microphones.
Elvis, I agree with your general attitude towards the Mills&Boone stuff, but I’m not sure about your comment on medical school. Are you simply pointing out how unlikely it is?
I think that mermaids have as much right to go to med school as anyone else, as long as they get top grades in their high school science exams.
When I was 13, 14ish my mother was reading Lady Chatterlys Lover. Whenever she put the book down I picked it up. I didn’t understand half of it, and soon lost interest.
Ummmm . . . methinks the Woman should give sci-fi/fantasy a chance. Too much romance can be . . . umm . . . rather like having too much salt or pepper in your food. You know what I mean? Or maybe too much sugar . . . ? ❤ I am rather biased, however. ;)
That’s ‘Doctor Coral’ Elvis, not ‘it’. I thought a professional reporter like yourself would be more respectful. What sort of role model are you being for Ora Zella and Iggy??
To everyone wondering, I’m almost 100% sure that this was inspired by a real novel. Check out Sandra Hill’s The Angel Wore Fangs! Doesn’t this description sound familiar?
Once guilty of the deadly sin of gluttony, thousand-year-old Viking vampire angel Cnut Sigurdsson is now a lean, mean, vampire-devil fighting machine. His new side-job? No biggie: just ridding the world of a threat called ISIS while keeping the evil Lucipires (demon vampires) at bay. So when chef Andrea Stewart hires him to rescue her sister from a cult recruiting terrorists at a Montana dude ranch, vangel turns cowboy. Yeehaw!
The too-tempting mortal insists on accompanying him, surprising Cnut with her bravery at every turn. But with terrorists stalking the ranch in demonoid form, Cnut tele-transports Andrea and himself out of danger-accidentally into the 10th Century Norselands.
Whaaaat??!!!! A Viking who is also a cowboy stranger and is also a vampire too? You is gots to kidding me. And not tells me he also is a outer space aliens too now. And a mermaid doctor? What on earth in the wide wacky western world is this? What a load of preposteridiculudicrous poppycock. Why would anyone reads such a pompousickening pulpy pile of ridiculousy rubbish!! Pounces upon that bombastically bloviating blithering blathering baloney balderdash book and ravagingly rips it to smithereeny shreds, cats. Saves your hoomin before it too late!
If I’m going to read romance – I call them bodice rippers, I tend to reach for Nora Roberts. I think Puck’s blush is adorable. He must have happened upon a particularly steamy scene.
Queen Catshepsut the Golden: It has come to my attention that there has been controversy regarding the Royal Library. Elvis-Anum, would you please enlighten all of us here?
Elvis-Anum: The Library is a repository of many papyri of rare and valuable information. What happens if everyone takes them out and reads them?
Lupinium: Uh…We would all learn things?
Elvis-Anum: But I’m supposed to be the keeper of all this info.
Beatrixia: We can put some rules in place to make sure everyone takes good care of the papyri.
The Queen: That’s a good idea. Puckmosis, will you and Bea start creating the rules?
Puckmosis: We would be honored, Your Majesty. We should start by taking an inventory of what all we have.
Elvis-Anum: Begin with the series of legendary loves: Romeow and Juliecat, Antonpurr and Cleocatra, and especially The Mewmaid and the Vampire Viking Cowcat.
A lot depends on the author and (for me) whether the romance is the main or secondary plot. Try Jayne Castle (aka Jayne Anne Krentz). Sci Fi mysteries with a dash of paranormal and adorable critters called “dust bunnies”.
We go now live to BREAKING CAT NEWS!Edit to add: This is a classic strip, thanks to the bout of Norovirus that hit the kids and I weeks ago. I forgot about this one, and laughed right along with it this morning. Thanks to my editor Kendra for picking this one out!
I used to read a fair amount of serious fiction. In the 15 years since I retired I’ve concentrated on trash. It’s mostly science fiction and crime stuff with a bit of fantasy. I still insist on the strict observance of Mark Twain’s 13 (IIRC) rules. I just don’t care about ontology, metaphysics, moral conundrums, or “the burning essence of character.” I don’t think I’m up for romance novels except for Jane Austen. I once told a woman I worked with that I had a crush on Elizabeth Bennett. The woman said, “Don’t you think she’s a bit old for you?”

I’m reading the latest in a cozy series. At one point, our sleuthing heroine states. "We didn’t have a lot of crime in [town] . . . "
Well, other than the 15 or so murders since you moved there.

“Some kind of mermaid?” You mean, there’s more than one kind? I think Elvis needs to investigate this.
