Providence, but I don’t get the joke in that.

He answered the door—the door’s question.

This is a variation of a joke used on Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In in 1970, and it was probably an old joke even then. I don’t know what’s stranger – that I remember watching it, or that I could find the script online.

- [Door] Who was the 13th president of the United States?- Dear, would you answer the door?- Millard Fillmore.

Is Frank in Jeopardy if he doesn’t answer the door correctly?

And if Frank is in Jeopardy, wouldn’t his “answer” have to be a response in the form of a question, and wouldn’t the the “question” from the door actually have been a clue in the form of an answer.

What is Frank to do? [Frankly, he doesn’t know, and neither do I.]

Ask a pirate what the capital of Rhode Island is, and he’ll say “Arrr!”

When Opportunity or Providence come knocking at your door, you answer the door.

(P)rovidence is the capital of Rhode Island. (p)rovidence is god-guided destiny. The unknown knock on the door symbolizes that destiny. The joke is a play on words, on homonyms.

The door asked me what the ninth letter of the alphabet was. It was a complete guess, but I was right.

If he guesses correctly, does he get a door prize?

The real question is what are they watching on that TV…? Maybe Hunger Games…?
