My meditation coach said that when I noticed my mind starting to gabble, I should react by “gently prefering silence”.

Seemed to work as well as anything else.

Sooo… don’t make me one with everything?

Focus on your breath, Rat. Focus on your breath.

This is inevitable when I attempt to clear my mind… the floodgates open. Sometimes I keep pen and paper nearby, so I can write down my ideas. Once they are on paper, it means I can then dump them out of my head, but still have a record of the ideas for later.

He lasted half a second. I’m jealous.

I cannot even do that! These people always say Meditate, but no one tells you the way to do it! Clear your mind, HTH do you do that???

I cannot meditate, my ADHD brain keeps shorting it out.

Meditation doesn’t work for me at all.

Every time I try to clear the thoughts from my head, some annoying song (like “The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia”) creeps in on auto repeat.

I’ve been to Steiner’s Tavern years ago. At the time, it was the only decent bar in Sonoma.

Suppose that the thoughts don’t want to leave willingly?

Thanks to Google, I now know that Pablo Escobar really did have hippopotamuses.

And Rat, you might have picked up the dry cleaning, but you certainly didn’t pick up the dry cleaners. (I know – unnecessarily picky.)

The Western world’s way of meditating bears little resemblance to the meditation ways of other cultures. Part of the problem is the movie/TV stereotype of meditation: sitting down with eyes closed and emptying your head of everything. That’s not meditation!

Rat needs a Pensieve.

Maybe it’s a lifetime of playing music and a childhood of practicing baseball stuff, but blanking my mind is easy for me. Like Yogi Berra said “How can you think and hit at the same time?” You have to practice stuff like that enough so you can do it without thinking.

Half a second is a stretch.

I have trouble with meditating. But then I’m not a sociopath like Rat.

The only time I think about global warming is when I think how weak minded someone has be to take it seriously
