An update to a previous comment: I had previously mentioned that going by next Saturdays August 3 early preview at CK, it looked like Sunday might be the start of a new story. I was wrong, as next Sunday is a continuation of the present story, as I was just was able to view it when it became available about an hour ago.
Borden needs to move aside so Tracy can draw a bead on Fatso. No shots fired ! Looks like “hell bucket” gets to keep her good looks after all. Will B. do time over this ?
Well… my request from DJ JPuzz was for “Green-Eyed Lady” by Sugarloaf. Today I’ll have to change that to “Brown-Eyed Girl” by the Rolling Stones. (I know the weekday colorist is different than the Sunday and he/she got it wrong.)
Gabriel must feel like he won the jackpot. Who are the cops gonna arrest? The man waving a gun around & firing it off, or the man claiming he’s fearlessly placing his life at risk by shielding an innocent woman? You’re a loser to the end, Borden!
Today’s strip is beautiful! Even though the pacing has been slow again, there are elements of this story that I like. Our lady coppers finally participating more actively in a case for starters. I would have enjoyed seeing them take out the “angels” before they escaped, but maybe that’s not meant to be. I like our “lady of the night” and I hope she survives this confrontation unscathed. Charles’ artwork is amazing!
Now that the coppers have arrived, what choice does that leave our wet noodle, Bordo with? If he shoots, the cops will probably shoot him. If he drops the gun, Gabe will get it. I think I’d hand it to the cops and hope for the best.
What is that thing in the upper right throwaway panel? Is it the “key” Borden has to the 5 million in crypto? And it’s going to wind up melted in all that hot lead?
The image in the top right “extra” panel is a beautifully rendered drawing of a Linotype matrix, or mold. The jagged key-like edges on the right are individual for each letter of the alphabet, and ensure that the molds will drop into the correct slot for re-use. The slight indentation along the top is where the concave image of the letter is located – where the hot metal is forced into it to form the type face for printing. They are made from brass.
Now, does the “a Van Duivel” reference mean that he has had dealings with that family before, or just that “Duivel” means “Devil” in some Dutch dialects? If it’s the former, that could lead to something in a future storyline. (Not that Tracy writers have EVER created a newly-revealed relative like that. No, NEVER!) lol
Off Topic: If Mike is at the San Diego ComicCon, he should look up my friend, Mark Pracht.
Mark is there as a guest on a few panel discussion on the history of comics, including the history of Batman which is the theme of his first play and comic censorship which is the theme of his second play. Mark is a playwright who wrote 3 plays called The 4-Color Trilogy on the history of comics. These plays had their world premiere at City Lit Theatre in Chicago, which is the theatre where I was Designer in Residence. Mark has also performed there as an actor in several productions.
Mark’s first play in the 4-Color series, “The Mark of Kane,” was the history of the development of Batman. The second play, “The Innocence of Seduction,” was all about the creation of the Comic Code Authority. The first two plays had their world premiers last year and the previous year in succession at City Lit. The third play in the series, “The House of Ideas,” is about the rise of Marvel Comics and it will premiere on August 23rd.
Mark has said he is considering writing a fourth play in the series due to the tremendous success of the others. “Sordelet Ink” is the publisher of the plays and copies can be bought from the company. They have a page on Facebook. They are outstanding plays and very well researched.
1- PONCH DA LA BELLYFAT: As I have no reason to fear “Shaky’s” aim, I will allow myself a moment to delight you with an entertaining story about this arcane machine…
2-: …I was a Printer’s Devil in my youth…
3-: …Having arrived at that juncture of life where images and actions can imprint on a young person’s sexuality, I had just playfully pushed a comely young assistant who subsequently fell into the hot lead pouring out of the press…
4-: …It was the hottest – if you will – and most erotic thing I’d ever seen. AND NOW – at long last I can finally recreate that wonderful scene that has driven so many fantasies and dreams over the years!
5- DT: Is there anyone in here who answers to the description of “whale-man in a white suit” ? Anyone? Lemme see that warrant again, Liz. Maybe we’re in the wrong place…

Gabriel did not expect pushback on his foul game
Take the loot while Angels scoot. Do wrong sans fitting shame.
Thinks he has the upper hand clamped ‘round a lovely neck
Borden with a gun in hand now deals from a new deck.
Grim gun play may go either way. Expect no guarantees
Tracy steps into the breech. Orders all to freeze.
Drop the gun! Nowhere to run. Now who may catch hot lead?
Bloody story it would make should Boss Man wind up dead.

how WILL Gabe manage to extricate himself out of this NOW?…

Good morning™, all!
I think that Borden is too scared to fire that gun, but the police are arriving. I don’t see Gabriel getting away.

Great art as usual, but I don’t think the peculiar perspective in the penultimate panel quite pays off….

Prediction: Gabriel ends up in the Hell Bucket, as we return to the Dick Tracy tradition of terrible endings for villains.

The shot Tracy and company must have " a Hail Mary" from Borden. He shot a hole in the ceiling. Barney Fife probably was his instructor.
