In an old Peanuts strip, Lucy says that she wants to be a critic when she grows up. Someone asks her what she will be a critic of, and she replies (something like), “Every man, woman, and child in the United States.”

That could be Opal’s goal.

The fact that she actually realizes this about herself proves that this is just a cartoon.
