I make the bed and I have NO IDEA what hotel corners are. I like Earl’s way better.

Hotel / hospital corners are used on the bottom sheet instead of fitted sheets… because if the top and bottom sheets are the same, that’s one less inventory item. And flat sheets are distinctly less expensive. And staff is going to be there pulling and replacing sheets for every customer anyway. Unless you’re some kind of strange, though, you’ll probably use a fitted sheet at home: It’s hard to buy single sheets instead of sets. And hospital / military / hotel corners are a lot more work. More time consuming. More likely to come loose if you don’t re-make them every day.

I leave the bed unmade. This lets the sheets and most importantly the mattress air out and dehumidify. A made up bed traps in heat and moisture that promote dust mite growth. It’s just science. But you do you. I bet someone sells dust mite proof (resistant) mattress covers. Again, you do you.

Now, I might get negative feedback from the following, but here goes. A made bed, straightened rooms, and clean kitchen make for a home ready for visitors. It shows you respect your home by keeping it neat and clean. (Yeah, I’m old!)

My mom taught us to do corners and foot of bed tucked in, looked nice but no one ever inspected but her! I still do it that way in my 70s!

It can be humbling to fold fitted sheets. Earl benefit from a bit of perspective. I don’t know how but it might be fun to watch and see how stubborn his pride is.

I grew up in the days before fitted sheets, and the way Mum made the bed was a royal pain. Take off both sheets, turn the top sheet head to toe and put it on the bottom. Use the original bottom sheet as the top sheet and proceed. I was amazed – and delighted! – when I went to boarding school to discover nobody else in the world did this.

I, and George Costanza, despise it when the sheets are too tight, but let’s hope he folded the end of the toilet paper roll to an arrowhead and left a chocolate on the pillows. Probably no need to wash and steam-sanitize their bed-spread.

Even if you did it right, she’d either find fault or chastise you for doing it more often. Just keep quiet and maybe she’ll ignore you. Peace and quiet, now that’s the ticket! ;-p

I can’t believe how many people can find flat sheets that fit the bottom. They’ve started making the top sheet using less fabric and now you can’t get a nice tuck with a flat sheet. So I have to use fitted sheets on the bottom which just didn’t fit right.

Opal will need to re-make the bed before she can get a proper night’s sleep. Her mother&grandmother would require it.

Don’t complain, Opal. Don’t ever complain when Earl attempts to help you with household chores. Just go back and—quietly—fix it yourself. If you complain, he’s liable to stop helping. Who knows, if he keeps trying he might figure it out.

That said, my guy makes beds better than I ever did. He had plenty of practice—he was a medic in the Army.
