That homonym always amused me when I was his age. But I much preferred the one over the other. My favorite was a Dusty Miller. This concoction was vanilla ice cream covered with chocolate syrup and topped with a generous heap of powdered malt.
I had to go to Sunday School. and preaching every Sunday morning and Sunday evening. And prayer meeting on Wednesday evenings.
What a boring waste of time. Once I got to college that stopped. I’ve been to church services a few times in the years since then, and it’s still the same.
Some useless trivia, for the comic… one of the widely held beliefs for the spelling “sundae,” was that in the 1800’s, when it was invented, the toppings were deemed too frivolous, to be served on Sundays, so, to pacify those that were objecting, the spelling was changed to “sundae,” so as not to take away from the religious connotation, of “Sunday.”
I went to a Catholic grade school, high school and college. I never had to go to Sunday School. My sister attended “confraternity” classes on Wednesday afternoon as a social thing. Her public school friends attended.
I can’t recall sending my children to Sunday School either. Yet they managed to receive the sacraments anyway.
We now do Bible Study. It’s interesting to see the various interpretations.
When I turned 13, my dad offered me the choice of Sunday School or chores. Vacuuming is a great alternative to religion, much more useful in the long run. Thanks Dad.

I jumped out the window and ran home. Later, my mom told me, I was banned from Sunday School.

I grew up Catholic, so a sundae after Saturday Catechism class did not completely atone for missing the Saturday morning cartoons.

If you want Sundae School, you need to be on Cape Cod in the summertime. Yum!
