The two are best when they are in sync. But yeah, look at the actions. On the whole, they’ll give you a good idea of what’s on the inside.

Our actions also seed, develop and grow what’s in our hearts. You can maintain a “moral nature” for very long while doing bad deeds. Faith and works working together to create one soul.

People can misconstrue actions. I think intentions are important. Actions take precedence, though.

I asked some friends a very similar question last weekend. If two people do a good deed, one for all the right reasons and one for cynical or selfish reasons, is the act of one better than the other?

Fake it until you make it. Our thoughts and actions reinforce one another.

Assume a virtue, if you have it not.

That monster, custom, who all sense doth eat,

Of habits devil, is angel yet in this,

That to the use of actions fair and good

He likewise gives a frock or livery

That aptly is put on. …

For use almost can change the stamp of nature.

I spoke to a young prosleytizer working through my neighborhood. I listened for a few minutes then told him that Jesus was more impressed by service to one’s fellow man than convincing them. He seemed to take it to heart.
