This was my youngest son and my youngest granddaughter. It must run in the family.
I recall an event when we had our granddaughter (about 6 or 7 at the time) sitting on the sideline with us as her older sister was playing some sport. She kept leaning back in her chair and we kept warning her. Then we heard the plop and looked over to see two feet sticking up over the tumbled chair.
first day of first grade. My mom was looking in the side window after dropping me off to see how I would handle school and I was leaning back in my chair and fell over. It was all downhill from there.
I’ve read books with good parts like that. I couldn’t put it down, even after I fell out of the chair. I had to read to the end of the chapter, while lying on the floor.
In school, I would read while keeping half an ear on the teacher. She never could surprise me.
The most embarrassing thing is when there is a really funny passage (as in P.G. Wodehouse books) and I wound up laughing out loud in a suddenly very quiet classroom.

If Calvin is lucky (or unlucky) enough to get a desk job, he will discover seats that lean back without having to balance on the back legs.

Our kid did that once. Leaned back further and further, then BAM! Then had the nerve to say, “Someone pushed me!”
