We found out from the archival footage of Baba’s days as a reporter that Jules has been around for a very long time. Perhaps he is also immortal! Now I’m picturing Jules wearing Red Baron goggles and leather helmet inside a flying pumpkin with bat wings, his scarf flying in the wind. Do July bugs fly south for the winter? Would that make them January bugs in Australia?
Interesting that Burt translated the Day of the Dead as “Halloween”. Halloween (All Hallows Eve) is October 31, while the Day of the Dead is November 1 (and 2).
I don’t speak Spanish, but I like looking at the language and translation to spot the connections between Spanish words and English. For example “afirmando” and “claiming”, you can spot “affirm” in the former and see that it’s similar to “claim” because you have to affirm it’s true.
cómpralAs, muéstralAs, mételAs… Thanksgiving can be translated to “Acción de Gracias”… Hopefully Georgia will run these strips past a professional translator…
The other day some of us were trying to find a strip that showed if the BPH used fuses or breakers for its power. Reading Good as Goldie I found the strip from August 12, 2019. Burt says they had a fuse out, though it shows him flipping something and the panel looks more like breakers.
I think it’s time for an intervention—raccoons & possums band together to take out the pumpkins. As Gutter’s cousin Henry ll put it, “Who will rid me of these troublesome squashes?”
Might I request that all of the Spanish Grammarians start a SINGLE Off-Topic thread so that you can post all your recommendations/corrections in one place? That way, Georgia can find all of them if she wishes, and those of use who aren’t interested can skip over them.
These discussions are getting a bit tedious for some of us!
A truly infinite cycle of giving and getting. The lifespan of a tiny pumpkin allows it to hold the wisdom of many centuries, so cats often eat them to become smarter.
And I’m up to date – after a year off from GC, BCN was the first strip I wanted to catch up on, and it’s been quite a ride to catch up on a year’s strips, and the Orb’s stories BTL, in less than a week. So many congratulations, commiserations and sympathies are due, but I will simply express them all by changing my profile pic to my beloved reporter (specialist subject: mices) Poppy.

If you do not carve your pumpkin(s) for Halloween, they should easily last until Thanksgiving. At least they do for me.

Dye them pink and blue, cut them open and fill them with chocolate, and hide them for Easter eggs.

Paint them gold for St Paddy’s day and tell your friends you finally got that stingy Leprechaun’s treasure!

Another minor oops: “Si” without an accent means “if”; for “yes”, it has to be “Sí”.

On New Year’s Day, we celebrate
Bonkers tiny pumpkins, so fun to swat away
They’re good to fling, such joy they bring
In fact, they liven up each ordinary day
When April rains, they brighten gloom
Dear Ig can line them up in ev’ry single room
So what this is, like a Goldie clue
Made up of these three words that we must say to you
We’re on air to say we love them
We’re on air to say, put them ev’rywhere
We’re on air to say we love them
And we’d love to see some in sweet Sophie’s art
When summer’s high, we let them fly
Li’l OZ has bombs to light one each 4th of July
In autumn breeze, the falling leaves
Even Puck has time to bat them as he clears the skies
We have such fun, on Halloween
And we give thanks for all immortal orange things
So what this is, like old space goo
Will blow your mind like Lupin and his derring-do
We’re on air to say we love them
We’re on air to say, we share, we do
We’re on air to say we love them
And we’d love to see them melt Elvis’ noble heart

Meanwhile, Back on the Nile
Iggy: I love your Feast of Candy tapestry. Beatrixia and I have a few ideas on how to arrange the jewels and the candy jewels.
Bea: I would like to test them out first. Sophititi, do you have any fabric that you don’t need?
Soph: I have some curtain material from a project I was working on awhile back. It’s roughly the size of the tapestry.
Iggy: That’ll work out nicely. Now let’s get some stones and put them in place, along with some candy jewels.
Bea: And now we’ll climb the curtain and grab the candy.
Voice: Did someone mention candy?
Another Voice: And we’re gonna help.
Maat-Tilda: Lupinium! Back from the tumbling exhibition already?
Lupinium: Avenger gave me a lift after we were done. And I met Ora Z on the way back.
Ora Z: Now, we can eat the tapestry!
Adobe Style: Oh dear, will we have enough candy to go around?
Soph: Not to worry. I just heard the sound of giggling in the background.

Seguramente me gustaría ver.
Porque eres el mejor compañero que tengo,
Nunca te mueves de tu lugar ni te equivocas.
Tú haces pasteles dulces, barras y pan.
