I was going to say that having a clear line of sight would make the scheme completely ineffective. Momentary lapse, on my part. I’ve seen too many news stories which prove some people to be too gullible.
I stumbled into a similar situation in northern Maine back in the Nineties. There was only one bear and I had my camera around my neck. Ursa Minor (she wasn’t very big,) looked at me for a few seconds, then just walked away into the woods. My heart did not start pumping hard until after she was gone!
