Had a bit of a scare there when the comic didn’t show up when I first came in. Fortunately, I refreshed and there it was! WHEW!

Iggy is ready to line up the Roombas and let Ora Zella feel it in her bones! I think the Roombas would be wise to hightail it back to Roombovia, or whatever the call their home world. But i’ll let em clean my floors first. LOL

WHY are we all suddenly interested in opening the door?

Under the Good News heading: Ora Zella probably can’t open the door, but merely thinks she can.

    Probably.

Iggy can’t do everything! Crack the code AND keep Ora Zella away from the door.

Whatever happens, I hope these cub (ahem) reporters are promoted to full-fledged journalists when the spell dissipates. They have earned their stripes!

HEY! Maybe this is all an elaborate hazing ritual designed to test their mettle and see if they can keep the station running.

¡Viva Breaking Kitty Mews! (And Lupin and Ora Zella who put the “Breaking” in Breaking Cat News.)

I’m trying to think of a collective noun for roombas: herd, colony, and fleet don’t seem to fit. Maybe a sweep of roombas? Any other ideas from the orb?

I often pray for the intentions of The Orb in need, never thinking that I would need prayers in return, but I do. My adult daughter is in the hospital with an high fever after surgery a week ago. They are packing her in ice tonight, or I guess I should say this morning. Please pray for her, and her wonderful husband who is by her side doing some praying of his own. Thank you.

I had one many years ago who made a serious attempt at door opening. She’d leap up and grasp the doorknob with both paws, hanging there for a few seconds. Good thing I didn’t have the lever style of door latch, or she’d have succeeded.

    Meanwhile, Back on the Nile

Violet-Ifa: Yes, it looks like some ancient hieroglyphs repurposed for modern use.

Beatrixia: There seem to be a lot of emeralds. You say they represent vacuums?

Vi: Yes. These are a special type of vacuum designed to clean floors. I think they were called roombles.

Bea: Because of the sound they made?

Vi: Most likely. Let’s see what we can make of these hieroglyphs.

Ora Z: I think I could make a love shawl from the tapestry. Or maybe a new tunic.

Sophititi: Maybe. But best to leave the tapestry as is for now.

    Enter Iggy Shipwright

Iggy: You know, I think I’ve seen hieroglyphs like this before. They were used to document our shipbuilding methods.

Bea: Have you seen this set of hieroglyphs?

Vi: The ones near the pictograph of the foreman (forecat) dropping a hammer on his paw? I’m not sure.

Good plan, Bea. If these are the forces the BPH can muster against the invading roombas, I’m glad there is someone to take charge. Looking forward to seeing Iggy crack the code.

Iggy has probably determined it is a vowel using a similar trick that has been used to crack some cipher codes here on Earth. In English, the letter “e” is the most commonly reoccurring vowel in words. So when you find the symbol that occurs most frequently in a cipher code, odds are it represents the letter “e,” or at least a common vowel, and thus gives you a headstart at deducing what some of the words might mean by assuming that. It’s at least usually a good starting point.

Now technically, because we’re dealing with an alien language here, there probably shouldn’t be any guarantee that the alien grammar is similar enough to guarantee that same trick working here…but since the message is probably just a cipher-substitute code itself representing English words rather than a true unique language for the sake of storytelling purposes, Iggy and Bea probably have the right idea here.

I’m calling it again that Ora Zella’s definitely going to open that door before the arc’s over. ;)

Please don’t mention open doors. During a very warm spell last week, my front door opened (the heat swells the wood in the door) and one of my cats ran out. She won’t come back inside. I’m at my wits end. She comes onto my deck and eats the food I leave but if I approach her she runs away. It will be the start of the rainy season soon and I don’t want her outside. She’s old, about 18, and I worry about her. I guess she’s a wild child.
