It’s precisely the reason that modernity can never produce humanitarianism on its own. After all, the third Reich was very advanced…

Sometimes killing or having the ability to kill saves lives.

Who wants to mess with any prepared to kill them? It’s why we maintain military forces and police and assorted weapons around us.

(You can never be too careful, just too careless.)

Unfortunately, we are a self destructing species. We should be embarrassed by this, but as a species, we just aren’t. The longer time goes on, the more lethal we’ve become.

Surprising flash of intellect from a kid who always wears a space helmet.

Sad, but they didn’t have to ask, it just came naturally to our fallen nature. Or as the Bible points out, the very first boy ended up killing his first brother. If you don’t believe in the Bible, from the evolutionary side we get billions of years of “nature, red in tooth and claw,” so there’s no escaping it. We have to ask, can we escape it personally, and is there an escape for humanity in the future? Oh, sorry, rather deep and dark ponderings in a comics comments section, but the comic strip started it.

We’ve come a long way. We used to have wars like the 100 years’ war and the 30 years’ war. Most wars now only last a year or two. At the rate were going, the next war will only take about 25 minutes.

Listen, and understand! That Terminator is out there! It can’t be bargained with. It can’t be reasoned with. It doesn’t feel pity, or remorse, or fear. And it absolutely will not stop… ever, until you are dead! …oh, wait.. that’s the Killbot. Military AI is coming.

    So, what’s new?

When you have a “good idea”, the first thing you should ask is, “how can this be corrupted”?

Which is why all these idiots working in robotics and AI may be extremely intelligent, but also incredibly stupid.

This is why Marc Laidlaw’s idea was so successful. “The first line of almost any story can be improved by making sure the second line is, “And then the murders began.””

Go ahead. Roll over and show your belly. Just don’t come crying when you, and all of your like-minded friends, are living in either literal or figurative chains. We are a violent society because some of us animals only understand that the violence protects us from those who would do violence against us. It would be great if we could all live in peace, but it will never happen.

The question has to be asked, is Tim Rickard foreshadowing plans to weaponize his comics?
