Well, at least we know where Calvin gets his imagination, even if Dad keeps it well hidden most of the time.

Fathers are always the one who tells such whoppers.

I get all sweaty and gittery keeping up the Easter Bunny and Santa stories!

I always thought it was grandpas that got to tell the whoppers…

That can’t be right because I watch the sun rise somewhere on the Dutch coast and then see it set somewhere around London.

Ah yes Dad, the teller of tall tales.

That seems so out of character for Dad - in a good way. Mine was a civil engineer and just couldn’t get out of engineer mode enough for whoppers.

BW sure had fun with the father-son conversation in this strip! I love it.

Dad got it right. I live near Flagstaff and boy I tell you it is HOT when the sun sets there!!

Children (and adults) seem to listen to you and remember what you said only when you’re wrong.

Sedona is better known for red rocks. I don’t have a good view of sunsets at my huse unless I’m in the pool. We had a lovely sunrise this morning. I get to see those in my room.

So, that’s why we don’t have good sunsets here in Montana….we’re too far west to see them??

And, all along, I thought it was ‘cause we had a hill in the way!

i think calvins dad is right. i remember living west of arizona and the sun would always rise and set in the east.

Dad is going to hell

Calvin will long remember these conversations with his dad. He will tell his children abut them. What would he remember if dad told him the correct answers? probably little.

Meanwhile, Mom’s not quite so naive where her husband’s “smarts” are concerned!!!!!

From here, it goes behind the mountains, toward the county seat. They’re good at sucking up tax dollars & daylight, & telling whoppers. Our recently former tax assessor was arrested for showing up high at his corruption trial.

Besides, everybody knows where the smogs in L.A. come from. They’re the smoke left over from the extinguishing of the sun in northern Arizona.

My dad would tell stories like this, but usually in mom’s presence. I could tell most of the time that he was pulling my leg by the twinkle in his eyes, and the fact that I usually already knew the answer to my question, so I would just play along. It would just drive mom bonkers! He’s been gone 30 years now, and not a day goes by that I don’t miss him and think of him. Going to be a grand reunion someday!!!

So if the sun sets at Flagstaff, then it sets in the east in California, right?

Hopefully, one day soon, I will also have kids to mess with.

Dad is not worse than those crazies that tell their children that the earth is only 6000 years old or scare them about being “left behind” while they themselves will ascend to heaven in their underpants.

I love Dad! No wonder Calvin is so twisted. I’d love to do that to my grandkids (they’re at that same vulnerable age), but then they’d turn out like everybody else’s kids.
