There was a week of strips in FW which shown Ed playing Santa for children at Montoni’s, with Funky pantomiming utter astonishment to Ed’s antics, so these two should already be well aware of each other. No stakes.
They all better get inside soon, though. The building has vanished in panels 2 and 3. Who knows what else might go missing tomorrow.
Do these people have enough sense to get out of the snow? And does Funky still have the key to Montoni’s? You’d think he would have sold it by now, instead of continuing to pay property taxes on a non-productive building.
Old saying: “There’s no one more untrustworthy than someone who trusts nobody.” Ed’s not there to save them from the scam—he’s only there for his share of it. And Ed’s got one hand on his switchblade, and another on his prison toothbrush shiv.
Also, I lived in NE Ohio only 50 miles from KSU: It doesn’t snow there nonstop. In this strip, oh hey yeah it will, you bet! May end around Easter, God willin’, ya never know.
To head off any false claims of FW’s women being demeaned (such as the one I found in the comments for the 11/27/2023 Crankshaft strip):
I say this again: The majority of comic strip wives and mothers belittle, berate, put down and dismiss their husbands and children, among other behaviors directed towards them. The same goes for the TV sitcoms, even the so-called “family” ones. (Watch a little Malcolm in the Middle and Good Luck Charlie sometime if you doubt me.)
And I say this today: And yet according to some certain people, the portrayal of a wife/girlfriend treating her husband/boyfriend any better than in the previous paragraph is “demeaning to women”? Wow. Just, wow.
For those who simply cannot appreciate an actually loving and supportive relationship, you might likely prefer Luann’s attitude during the 11/27/2023 week of Luann Again.
As for me, I wish to thank you for recommending me to FW via both your Baituk-bashing and your male-bashing. If the interactions there are as positive as you say, then it would be refreshing to see for myself. It is just a shame that reruns seem to no longer be anywhere to be found.
“Hey, the last time I saw Ed he was several years older, in a nursing home, in a wheelchair, and completely unaware of his surroundings. Glad to see he got better.”
I know comic people don’t age, but since crankshaft started in funky comic in the 70,s. How is it that crankshaft didn’t age but funky went from a high school student to being a grandfather?
What?! No joke about how Krankus is afraid Flunky will give MoPete and Mindull a “snow job”?
Tomorrow, tomorrow, there’s always tomorrow… (I originally had musical-note emojis around that line, but it seems GC doesn’t accept them and just sat and spun forever).

No, let’s take Mopey to the cleaners. He’s probably still wearing his old green shirt under that jacket. It’s got to be ripe by now.

Umm, if this is a business transaction, shouldn’t Mopey’s investment partner, the Pizza Box Monster, also be in attendance?

The snowfall seems to be getting heavier. You all might want to consider going inside.

It’s Cranky Boy the real estate genius. Did he ever get around to those back issue POPULAR MECHANICS Magazines?

Cranky has taken note of Jack and the Beanstalk and has avoided anything associated with “BEAN”

Ed can’t remember Montoni’s or Funky, and Funky can’t remember Ed, so it’s like they’re total strangers.

Cranky refuses to believe that those two “kids” would do anything “dirty”, so “the cleaners” would be an unnecessary extra expense.

Ed the only one with a realistic viewpoint? What has become of this strip?
