If this is how the Monday strip turns out, my mind races with the possibilities for the rest of the week …

Luann looks less than impressed with Pru….maybe also with Quill and his enthusiasm for Pru?
JayBluE about 9 years ago
A lot of work, a lot of preparation, and a lot of anticipation- A crew of few, then came mysterious delights…Borne of cities in light, with a touch of Grey….
All bit of inspiration and a slew of perspiration-A few lights, then a slew of sleepless nights…And now,to enjoy the wine light, the sweet finish…the fruits of the first day…

Now. Is Frank talking to us, the readers? I can’t believe an arc would end this abruptly and on a Monday. I guess, for the moment, I am just left in the dark…………with Crystal. Yes!!!

Is there an actual business plan for this place? It seems to be fusing bankruptcy with a couple of months.

A Christmas play with no audience apparently. The Fuse’s Christmas play will be, in the annals (or is that anal) of time, considered even more obscure than the 1949 Television program, Ruthie On The Telephone.
Caldonia about 9 years ago
It’s only playing once and they’re closing till New Year?? That’s absurd! Let’s see if they have Prudence sticking around which why would she? What about Luann thinking something’s up with her and Quill? Are they even going to develop that idea at least?
Caldonia about 9 years ago
Also, really wanted to know what the play was about. But NOOOO! That would have been too hard to mention? I guess the actors in the thing took off as soon as they could.
Sisyphos about 9 years ago
Hey, the DeGroots put on a great opening, thanks to Prudence and TJ (ugh; it hurts to praise that guy); if they choose to take a break from The Fuse until New Year’s, that’s okay with me. But I hope they don’t just sleep away their holiday….

Play? What play?
sarazan7 about 9 years ago
All that drama about Pru and the play, and no play? Kinda a ripoff.

Wait, Wait, WAIT. Don’t DISMISS the “Staff” Yet.
WHO is doing Clean-Up???
BelgarionRex about 9 years ago
The look Quill is giving Pru and the look Louann is giving Quill. If looks could kill, Quill will be DOA soon.

Being that it’s Crossword Day, a “shout out” to JPW…

I knew the power going out was a way to bypass showing the play.
PackerBronco about 9 years ago
Apparently “The Fuse” is only open on holidays. Hey, sounds like a good idea for a movie …
ACTIVIST1234 about 9 years ago
Wow— the Fuse is going to be open only on holidays. Well, that makes it a nice second job for Frank & Nancy! (Next time will be better, Nancy, you won’t have to remodel the warehouse nor train the help.)
Willow Mt Lyon about 9 years ago
The play is over already, and there is no second showing. Like the kid who has just opened their last Christmas gift, “Is this all?”

One & done for the year….

Maybe he was just speaking for himself and his burned out spouse.
seismic-2 Premium Member about 9 years ago
Most “holiday shows” play every day (maybe twice a day, on weekends) from mid-December through the first week of the new year. This show runs once, and the theater is closed for two weeks. Way to go, Frank – at that rate, you’ll be able to pay back the bank loan by… the year after never!!!
seismic-2 Premium Member about 9 years ago
And predictably, Frank doesn’t include any of the show’s cast or production crew (other than Quill) in his “thanks”, because they’re just Moony Uni drama students, and so they aren’t nearly so important to the evening as is Ox, the waiter.
locake about 9 years ago
There is NO indication at all that Mr. Gray intends to marry or propose to Gunther’s mom at any time. Just wild speculation in the comment section.
weblais about 9 years ago
The fuse isn’t as burned out as we are led to believe— on Saturday, Luann finds out she is going to be a sister— again.
seismic-2 Premium Member about 9 years ago
Congratulations to the person who predicted that we wouldn’t see any of the holiday show, even though it had been much ballyhooed in the strip for weeks now. Let’s see, who predicted that? Oh yeah, everybody.
ACTIVIST1234 about 9 years ago
Did Pru do, like a one-person show?
Pipe Tobacco about 9 years ago
BuckarooDave3…. think of this… if Mr. Grey proposes to Ms. Berger on Valentine’s Day…. and say Gunther proposes to Tiffany on May Day (May 1st), and Bernice proposes to Piro on Cinco de Mayo, and Bland Quill proposes to Pru at the end of the Summer)…. they can all join in together and have a “quad” wedding with Brad and Toni in September! And, Luann can definitely keep the date open so she can be at the front of the house or maybe even have a dual role as front of the house and waitstaff! :)

2I am hoping that today’s comic is a bit of a ruse…. if this is how the play and the grand opening conclude…. I will feel quite disappointed. But, I am keeping my fingers crossed that it is a ruse and we will learn and see more in the next few days.1. I was really hoping for something interesting that we were able to learn about Pru from her play. 2. I was really hoping to see more about the food and food service (other than TNT Tots). 3. I was really hoping to see more art, more crowd scenes, and more activities inside the Fuse. Of course, I also would have liked to see more drama and/or humor between the a) interactions of Quill/Pru/Luann, and b) I would have liked to have seen more humor and/or drama between Frank and Nancy in regards to this arc this week too.I really hope today has been a red herring and something really big happens (good or bad, serious or humorous) over the next few days.
locake about 9 years ago
Anyone can make guesses about what might happen in this comic, doesn’t mean anything at all, just a random guess. Sometimes you get a guess right.
Busrayne about 9 years ago
I really like Luann’s expression in this comic. It seems to say, “Great job, Pru. Need any help packing?”
Pipe Tobacco about 9 years ago
BuckarooDave3… I was simply being a bit silly. I am sorry if it came off negatively to you, it wasn’t my intention.I am probably just a bit slap-happy from the 250+ final grades I am still number crunching on right now and really need to finish so I can submit them. I do actually think it would be funny, however, if there were multiple couples getting married at the firehouse and Fuse on that day. It would perhaps diffuse (haha, pun not intended, but funny none-the-less) some of the controversy expressed by some about Brad & Toni marrying on that date. It would also likely lead to the event being fun and humorous. I have to admit, I am a little worried that Brad & Toni’s wedding arc will become too somber and too “poignant” unless some silliness is added in. The other couples horning in on the day could be just the ticket. :)

And so, through the magic of comic strip writing, Frank and Nancy are transformed from clueless pushovers into successful entertainment entrepreneurs.
(But you can’t help but wonder what Nancy did to get “burned out”. Maybe getting dressed up and standing around is exhausting for her.)
seismic-2 Premium Member about 9 years ago
> But you can’t help but wonder what Nancy did to get “burned out”.>All that time spent watching Mr. Gray and his contractors while they did all the renovation must be exhausting. Or maybe, during the two weeks that we spent watching Bernice be a petty tyrant, Nancy was busy bricking up the wall on which Mr. Zebo could hang his painting.
notbornyesterday about 9 years ago
Luann’s display of lack of enthusiasm is apparent, isn’t it? And if Frank thinks he can run a restaurant, theatre, bistro, when it’s convenient for him, AND SHUT DOWN DURING THE HOLIDAYS…WTF!!! well, he’s a bigger idiot than I thought; and I think Frank was already a big idiot.
David Huie Green LoveJoyAndPeace about 9 years ago
For those of you who wonder, I saw the show and it was great.

I thought the elves’ re-enactment of the “Game of Thrones” episode was a bit much, but I suppose modern-day audiences have come to expect that sort of thing.
Sheila Hardie about 9 years ago
We don’t get to see???
kaffekup about 9 years ago
Wait, TJ’s food was great? Does that mean he doesn’t have to light The Fuse?
RolloTheGrouch about 9 years ago
Hey Frank — didn’t the veteran Las Vegas club manager advise you to keep The Fuse open during the holidays?
Ummm … wait a minute … the guy who was in charge just before the opening, the one guy who wasn’t a rank amateur, who could straighten things out if they started to go wrong, made a hasty exit just before the grand opening. VERY suspicious!
doverdan about 9 years ago
Who were the actors in this play?.Almost all our known characters were in the audience or back stage;.Tiffany? She is about the only one;.Surely not Dez, Piro, Emo, or Jock.
RSH about 9 years ago
After some thought I’ve come to realize that what’s important is not so much the show itself but it’s (and Pru’s) effect on main characters and their relationships. Now at least.., we have the rest of the week to examine all of this… I hope.., i.e. the aftermath. Will Pru stay till New Years? What’s going on between her and Quill.. Best that we didn’t waste several days worth of panels looking at some show when it’s these questions that need to be addressed.
Airman about 9 years ago
Sorry, I missed the show. I hear the girls from Hooters and the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders had a real great mud wrestling event. I stayed in the back, in the corner, in the dark with my favorite Goth – - – Crystal.
RSH about 9 years ago
that said… if we had seen at least some of the show it might have given us clues as to what Pru is made of..
RSH about 9 years ago
that little weird grin on Quill’s face suggests that trouble is not over.
seismic-2 Premium Member about 9 years ago
Maybe that is why he came to the show. He heard that Pru had written a drag revue in which all the elves cross-dress and sing Don We Now Our Gay Apparel. Unfortunately, we shall never know just what all we missed.

seismic-2 GoComics PRO Member said,@LDoverThis was supposed to be a production of the Moony Uni drama department. They gave Frank their old AV equipment in exchange for using The Fuse as a rehearsal space, while the university rebuilt its auditorium. Mrs. Manezon was to be the director of this inaugural performance. We didn’t see any of it, nor did we see the cast afterwards, just as we didn’t see last year’s Halloween performance or any of the actors at the party afterwards (which was when Frank started thinking about buying the warehouse) . . . . . -———————————————-Yes, I guess you solve that mystery..Pru is also tied in, since it was a linked NY internship that Quill went to.
doverdan about 9 years ago
seismic-2 said, . . . . . I am starting to think that there is in fact no Moony Uni drama department – it’s just a scam – which is why Quill and Tiffany can breeze through school without any major effort at studying drama.-——————————————————————-I’m not sure that Tiff is actually studying Drama. If so, she might have been a performer this time..At one point that seemed to be involved, but little evidence of it recently..There IS evidence that Quill is working at it. And rather single-mindedly.

SPOILER ALERT
Looks like we all assumed too much in thinking that Luann’s worries were for naught…
Kymberleigh about 9 years ago
I did enjoy the Moody U drama troupe performance of The Nutcracker, especially the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies, where the flutes floated in the air as they were manipulated by the invisible performers …
