Ah continuity. As Flash pointed out Luann still has the cast on her foot from the “doofus” break. It should be interesting to see how Pru deals with the little bossy, bratty (even though I keep fighting that term here) butand I admit she is drawn as kind of bratty, but I think its cute. With kids it’s what they grow into with good parental and adult help that matters anyway). Pru suddenly you get your wish. Also interesting the observation made by Luann, the baby sister, on her older brother, Portent of how Shannon could turn out? Probably not because of her dad, that is for sure, unless he takes a major turn of character. Of course in Luannverse most of us here will be long gone before she grows into young adulthood.

Night-gaunt49. Re. Poe’s Law and the irony that some of my so called humor was understood and printed this past Sunday in one of our big city newspapers, circulation 1.2 million. You guys are harder on me than the pros.

Well, this may please some readers who had grown somewhat tired of the long Brad/Toni/TJ/Shannon arc.

Shannon’s still doing her best to entertain us, but the rest of the focus has switched to Luann and Pru. This new combination may make for some intrigue.

It seems that we’ve gotten back multiline comment preview, up to a height of 400 pixels, or about 14 lines of text. Scroll bars appear for larger comments, up to the limit of 2000 characters.

This more or less fixes known bugs that I’m aware of. And the last recent change also has helped the comment reply links to become functional quicker, especially when the line speed is a little slow.

Would someone please call an exorcist.

Not exactly what she wanted but you work with what you have.

The subtle said (but unsaid things)

1.Prudence talks about how Luann is so lucky to have a cool brother as she holds the picture of Brad and Toni’s wedding picture. What does this mean?

a.Brad is not hot.

b.Prudence has a brother and he is not cool.

c.Prudence is indicating that Luann’s brother is due to her good fortune and not because she did anything to deserve her brother.

d.Prudence has found that the best way to seduce a woman is by complimenting her on her brother.

e.Prudence’s belt lets us know that she is secretly one of the X-Men.

2.Luann always wished for a sweet little sister who’d do what she wanted to do. What does this mean?

a.Luann really wants a slave to do her bidding.

b.Luann’s issues with Brad had something to do with how they couldn’t agree on what they wanted to do.

c.Luann has a thing for little girls with missing teeth.

d.Luann’s imaginary little sisters have worse hair than Luann.

3.Shannon is here to play and she will be the mommy. What does this mean?

a.Shannon is expressing a dissatisfaction with her family situation and the lack of a strong female role model.

b.Shannon is thinking about having giraffes for children, because she is so short and is apparently unable to get any bigger.

c.Brad and Toni have reached the point where it is either kill Shannon or hand her off to Luann.

d.Shannon believes that mommies are the kind of parents who like to play.

That chest of drawers just turned 90 degrees when Shannon entered!

In one panel, Luann tells Pru that Brad was bossy. In the next panel, she tells Pru that she wanted a little sister that would do what she wanted to do. Funny, we sometimes don’t see these things in ourselves.

In the first panel, Luann’s frame is nicely drawn. She will have many suitors. Pru looks lonely – away from home – no romantic partner – whatever. Perhaps the attention she got from Les moved her – thereby explaining why she accepted the gifts. Shannon could be a touchstone in several lives. That said, I hope Bead & Toni are offering to pay for babysitting. I know they are saving for a home – but they shouldn’t be saving Luann’s money.

Yep. Shannon was outsourced. Toni and Brad went back to work and are unable to watch their niece. Let’s see how Pru handles her. She is in theater, like her dad. Bet you she handles her like a pro and teaches Luann a few tricks.

Aha!! They DUMPED the Kid on Luann, as Dreamy predicted over a week ago! Annnnd They DID it WITHOUT Asking First, which Makes “Them” a little bit WORSE than Jonah, IMHO. ROFL!!!

Keep passing the “kid” around. By the time Jonah “returns” in six months, He’ll have a Lynch Mob Waiting for Him!

I’m sure Brad and Toni wouldn’t just dump Shannon off. I really think they may have went over to solicit Luann’s help….really, to ask Luann…then Shannon, which would seem true to form, likely took it upon herself to go upstairs and assume that she might as well ‘get the ball rolling’, and that her being over there would be a ‘done deal’.

Which makes Luann’s prior comment about Brad’s previous “bratitude”, and her desire for a little sister to do what she wishes her to do, both well timed comedy, and just a bit of irony….

Maybe Pru and Lu can straighten the little terror out some.

Can you spot the 5 continuity errors in the last panel? I’ll get you started: #1: the giraffe’s spots aren’t brown.

Who’s going to tend for Shannon when Luann goes to Kidz First? I assume it’s against the rules for employees to just bring their own kids along with them to the day care (for free), right?

Cue up the annoying brat.

Can someone tell me what happened with Shannon’s mother?

I knew Jonah wouldn’t come back right away, but I didn’t see this coming.

Title this “Luann gets her wish.” A little sister and a bossy brother all wrapped up in one. Complete with giraffe.

So it’s officially OK to say that young Brad was a bossy, annoying brat. How long will be it before it’s permissible to describe Shannon in those same terms?

Whoa! It’s that Luann’s room? And Shannon is putting the wagon ahead of the horse!

sighs how much more of Shannon/Brad/Toni/Jonah? Unless Jonah “dad’s up”, which he won’t, or Brad and Toni legally adopt Shannon, this storyline is repetitive and goes nowhere. It’s a drag.

And we have an appearance of Luann in a Luann comic! Wow, amazing! Can’t tell if her foot’s still broken or not from this angle…

In Panel 3: Cue the Ren and Stimpy ‘suspense / surprise music’ from the embarrassing bathing scene – which foretells impending doom! . Duh – Duh – DUHHHHHHHHH !!!! :)

Now I wish Luann did have a little sister.

Pru would make a perfect mom for Shannon.

Spoken like someone who’s never had a younger sister.

I fear that Shannon will in fact be added to the DeGroot family, in effect filling the role of the “little sister” (although technically a niece by marriage) that Luann never had. This will allow the strip to focus more frequently on kids, a story area that Team Evans perhaps considers to be their core strength historically (since the “college” story arcs often seem to be struggling or drifting). So as Luann grows up, her role will be downplayed in favor of Shannon, who will become the “new Luann”.

Somewhat expected turn of events, brought about by Jonah’s “extension” of his time away (I suspect he likely had a longer time in mind before hand.). However, there are a few somewhat anachronistic issues I see today:

1. I have to believe that Brad (and Toni) must have discussed the unexpected extension of Shannon’s stay with someone in the DeGroot household. But, it apparently was not either Luann nor Prudence.

2. But, if by some chance Brad and Toni just ended up just unexpectedly dropping Shannon off at the DeGroot household (even if due to job related time constraints) this would be behavior that is no better than what Jonah did. So, I cannot believe Greg would have had Brad (and Toni) do this.

3. I think the most likely scenario is that Brad (and Toni) must have spoken with his Mom (Nancy) or Dad (Frank) to get an “ok” for this drop off. But, then it seems that one or both of the DeGroot parents would have talked with Luann (and/or Prudence) about the impending arrival of Shannon.

At least in my manner of thinking, all of the folks who were/are going to be responsible for watching and taking care of Shannon should have been given some advance “warning” about what was being asked…. so that they could be better prepared to take care of Shannon. Someone, somewhere, in the Brad/Toni/Nancy/Frank/Luann/Prudence grouping apparently has dropped the ball so to speak, as it seems both Luann and Prudence are rather surprised at Shannon’s arrival.

“Dropping the ball” in this fashion is an obvious behavior pattern for Jonah. However, he was not directly the cause of Shannon showing up unexpectedly in Luann’s room.

But, to me, it really does seem that someone who should know better in the group of six (Brad/Toni/Nancy/Frank/Luann/Prudence) did not do what I would have expected then to do as would be expected from the kind, nice DeGroots. So…. w

Oops…. the last part should have read, "So…. who dropped the ball?

This should be fun.

Poe’s Law notwithstanding (as it has not been formally adopted or ratified), I caught that you were just a-kiddin’. Speaking of Poe’s Law – I’m not sure I’d like to see Edgar Allan’s take on today’s Internet! Luann is getting the opposite of her wish! HOWEVER, all of her recent experience working with kids may give her what it takes to get Shannon turned around and stop being such a little Boss-Lady!

Doesn’t anyone ever call in advance when they are dumping little Shannon on them?

I hust realized something – the place is Luann’s bedroom, and Bernice isn’t there!!

Pru and Lu, the new comedy team, will probably play along and allow themselves to be coerced into talking “baby talk” and taking orders from the six-year old Mommy.

That may be taking “kindness” too far, as it is probably not really kind to let Shannon run rough-shod at an age when she should be starting to recognize the concepts of “right” and “wrong”….

Pru would be nice just to hang out with in a coffee house. She would have some fascinating stories from backstage Broadway and the streets of NYC. (Which I have never seen, except from about 35,000 feet up). She is nice, she is kind, probably has a great imagination, and I don’t think that she would ever hurt anybody.

Ma and Pa DeGroot likely received a call form Brad asking if they’d take off from their grueling job of managing The Fuse to care for Shannon.

Hurray… some crossover plot. I hope Shannon gets to join the Kidz First group for a few days. She needs some supervised structured activity with other kids.

There was no name or face or anything about Shannon’s mother given.

Prudence thinks Brad is cool? Oh, she said she’s a thespian, not a lesbian.
