Compared to Tara, Tiffany is as pure as the wind driven snow. Only thing she is guilty of is stealing a couple of hearts here, including mine.

This scenario doesn’t seem too hard to believe, if real-life instances of police and “security” personnel going overboard, all over the world, are anything to go by…

About two hours ago, I woke up wondering if this situation with the VIP seats might be a set up for a halloween surprise party like an early “trick or treat”. At first I thought Tara might have arranged it. Especially since the pseudo security guy knows her name. Who knew they were going to the truck event and could have set this up? I don’t usually predict outcomes on this strip, but this whole situation seems so unreal – the Barney Fife character, labeling Jack and Luann as trouble makers, and describing Tara as rowdy, and he didn’t read them their rights to remain silent. Since it is Halloween and a time for dressing up in costumes and pretending, and also a time for playing tricks, I have to wonder……..

This “over the top, rent-a-cop” is getting on my nerves! :D

Some people let a little authority go to their heads.

Today is the day before Halloween. I think a joke is in play here. One thing I do know is that if Greg had a political agenda in mind, he would have had a real cop, in a very carefully planned and set-up serious of panels, with a character, whose situation could be seen as some kind of social unfairness. I think he is not likely to touch that sore point in our political sphere, and in fact I have been sensing that comic strip artists are going out of their way to be funnier, while still topical, probably because times are so politically dark. We need the humor BAD. I can’t predict what will happen, I already have been burned on that; sort of same kind of thinking I have not betting on hometown teams, particularly the Chicago Bears. My emotions get in the way of my objectivity. I mean I thought we could beat the New England Patriots!!! Thank God I don’t bet anymore (lol). But I think I am safe sticking to my thesis that hilarity will ensue.

Yikes! Paranoia will destroy ya. Political? I laugh at the suggestion. Get over yourself.

Strange how many of the posters here like being bossed around by security guards and TSA. Perhaps the founders of this nation were right. Those who seek security over freedom deserve neither.

I go to a local theater where they have one row of seats with a ton of leg room for the handicapped or the PC term of your choice. I always sit there for the room. It is normally 90% empty. No one hassles me and I am more than happy to change seats at any time. It is not the same as parking in one of two handicapped spots and not being there to move it if necessary. Different situations should be treated differently. People would rather over react in many cases.

Huh, I’ve been in situations where I’ve jumped VIP seats. the worst that happened to us was being asked to move back to our seats, In some cases, when the actual VIP showed up, we just moved over. I guess I was just in more laxed venues than this one. did they suddenly move to New York City or L.A.?

If there’s something humorous going on with the “Barney Fife” clone I’m not seeing it. The humor of the TV Barney Fife character relied on his incompetence and bluster, he never appeared threatening. This character’s “humorous” element is just not shining through in a static panel cartoon medium.

This seems wholly surreal to me. The actions taken by the security guard do not match any sort of reality of which I have experienced. So, I just have to presume there is something else going on here. I made some hypotheses yesterday, but for the most part they do not seem plausible now. What might be happening?

1. Could Greg have simply had some obnoxious experience like this himself somewhere, and he is sort of therapeutically trying to explore what he experienced with the end result that he gives it the ending he would like to have happened in his own case? This idea could explain perhaps the absence of most of the humor typically found or attempted in the comic.

2. Even though it seems less likely today (with Tara’s reaction), I still wonder if this is being written to be more allegorical about the many recent news events that this could be reflecting that have occurred during the last few years?

3. I also had wondered if Greg had wanted to pay homage to a character he really liked in the past (such as “Barney Fife” or someone similar)? But, I keep thinking this is not likely as there is not really any of the ironic or slap-stick humor quality to anything the security officer is doing.

So, I am still at a loss… and will continue to mull this over, but I feel as confused as ever. I will drink my coffee, and continue to ruminate.

If the “Ubersturmfurer” starts frisking Tara it’s time to call a real cop. Many events hire off duty policemen to stay in the box office areas and in case serious mayhem occurs.

I’ve never been anywhere that security would carry on like this just because someone is in the wrong seats regardless of the circumstances. I think this arc is ridiculous.

The guard looks kind of young, and his haircut makes him look like he’s fresh out of training. I suspect that he’s a rookie, one that’s greener than a lime salad.

I notice that Tara seemed astounded at the thought of Luann and Jack becoming rowdy. Was that a beginning of a Mona Lisa smile on Tara’s surprised face?

this reminds me of when a cop chants “stop resisting” in as loud a voice as he can so he has an excuse when the suspect is brought in with a broken arm.

I’ve run into far too many rent-a-cops like this yabbo. They couldn’t make it into the actual police force so they "compensate’ by pretending to be badasses. Sadly, they’re just asses.

If it is political I hope that Greg has an interesting comment to make. But the guard looks like just a young White Barney Fife, who contrasted against Andy Griffith, taught us that authoritarianism isn’t the best way to deal with most situations. I also flashed on how so many of our local police and community have been abusing their power with POC and wondered if this was a little tone deaf or would teach us something. Maybe Tara will become friends with the guard! That could even be funny. Need Delta.

Interesting how many commenters say they’ve never met somebody like the overzealous twerp security guard. I’d have thought most if not all would have dealt with somebody like him at least once. If you were ever in the military, for instance, then you’ve met guys like him, no question about it. They treat whatever job they’re assigned like they’re on a mission from God or if it’s a matter of national security.
