Bernice may not realize it, but she is speaking as a friend rather than a counselor – no matter how “official” that gobbledygook May have sounded. A real counselor wouldn’t tell Tiffany to tell her father how to live his life.
How about that! Tiffany now considers Bernice, a friend! Can Luann be far behind?
By all means go to lunch with your Dad, Tiffany. Take Les with You and introduce Him as Ann’s son. Hell, I’d take Bern, Brad, Toni, and Old Smiley too, as They have had unpleasant experiences with Ann. Tom couldn’t possibility ignore all THAT “evidence to the contrary” concerning Ann, and I don’t care how “great” she supposedly IS in the sack.
HEY, You know what? Take little Shannon with you too, and tell your dad that the poor kid had to bite the witch to defend herself from her!
The three P’s of father of friend disgust. I mean disgust about the father of the friend. I am not at all surprised that Tiffany considers Bernice a friend, she followed her into college, she has interacted with her and Luann in a more adult (although still young adult) way; Bernice and Tiffany have had their issues, but still have buried the hatchet—figuratively—several times, and hey Bernice may be Ms. Overly Serious and know-it-all, without knowing much, but her heart is in the right place. And I have one other idea, Bernice is quite sexy, the trick for somebody who has the perception above that of Ugg the Caveman, is to find that out in someone like her. Actually that is true for Tiffany, whoever can help her be comfortable with who she really would really be an evolved guy.
If she wants any more lunches with Daddy she needs to keep Eiffel out of the conversation. Infatuated people can’t stand to hear anything said against their obsession; no prior relationship is safe.
I think tiffany and bernice needs to back off who Tom dates. If it makes her dad happy, it should be all that matters. I thought tiffany was on the road to being a better person. Well what better than to accept Ann Eiffel aka tolerate her. Not for her personality but just because she makes Tom happy.
A real counselor will never commit themselves on what a person should do, even though they probably have an opinion. Instead, they will guide the person to evaluate the pros and cons of any dilemma before making their own choices.
Whaa?? Bernice, I know you’re beautiful and brilliant (sort of), but that was both absurd and unexpected. I’ve never been to a counselor, much less a therapist; but I wouldn’t expect them to explosively instruct me on how to handle the enemy in question.
smell a rat! Tom is taking Tiff to lunch to tell her he is going to marry Ann.? Tom will say that Ann forgives Tiff for the terrible “lies” Tif told about her (Ann) and Tom wants her (Tiff) to apologize. Nothing like a little salt in the wound to start a new arc.
If you want my unprofessional opinion, tell him your feeling and thoughts, but leave the decision to him. Try to keep the lines open if possible. He may need you sooner than he thinks.
I think the Tiff has been slimming down in the last two arcs. I wonder if Greg is subconsciously referring to her that way since he has been drawing her that way for decades.
Why didn’t I see this before? Could Shannon actually be Ann Eiffel’s love child with Toni’s brother, Jonah? Both have ink black hair, needy, self centered and you want to squish both of them like a bug!
1) A number of people (Myself Included) think that We may finally get to meet Mr. Farrell, when Tiffany goes to lunch with her Dad. (Tomorrow? Next Week?) There MIGHT be a darn GOOD chance We Will. PROVIDED Tiffany takes “someone” (Guess Who) along with Her to Lunch. OR
2) Will Chances be, that Tiffany will go alone, and We WON’T witness Her Lunch/Conversation with Her Dad. Only the aftermath. And when We see Tiffany again, will she be dejected, with her mascara running, and announcing to Bernice or Les, that Her Dad and Ann are now Engaged/Married? Or will an Elated Tiffany tell Bernice that her Dad just announced he broke up with Ann? And a Triumphant Tiffany “celebrates” by “pouncing” Les? Or
3) Will Tiffany take Les to this Lunch only to find that her Dad Tom has brought along Ann Eiffel? The resulting thermonuclear EXPLOSION would be Fun to Watch. Down Wind from 25 miles away, sheltered in fully equipped lead lined bunker.
Just remember: According to Luannfan.com, Ann is now considered as much a part of the “Gang,” like it or not (I DO) as her “son” Les is (I DON’T). So I don’t believe Ann will be going anywhere, anytime soon, for long.
Even as a friend, that’s not very sound advice. Tiff needs to let things run their course and who knows. Her dad may enjoy being taken advantage of. It’s not uncommon for a lot of people.
Is this another sea change in relationships? Are Tiff and Bern new BFFs? We saw Jack & Luann step it up at the dog park and Tara becoming Luann’s what? Wing girl? BF, if not BFF yet? We saw Gunther and Les working on redefining their roomie relationship. Then there’s Big Al and Irma, the blushing bride. And what’s with Brad, Toni and (the live in?) Shannon?
And in this arc! Will Tiff and Bern become New BFFs? Can Bern handle two BFFs or will she jump into Tiff’s orbit? Where will Tiff, Daddy and Ann wind up? Remember Bern told Luann that Ann had moved into Daddy’s digs. (Hopefully he’s set up an Irreversible Trust Fund for Tiff before Ann gets her talons into the finances.)
The tectonic plates are shifting around in Luanniverse! I hope Greg can keep up!
This, to me, was a great way for the arc to proceed!
Several great points I especially like:
1. Tiffany referring to Bernice as a friend is a great thing, IMO.
2. Bernice staying in her “bookish” character with her polysyllabic psychobabble soup…. even when responding as a friend was very spot on with how her character is. And… it was funny too!
3. The “complement” given by Tiffany was very nice…. and the look of happiness/pride exhibited by Bernice…. WONDERFUL . A lot of folks berate Bernice… but I have always really liked her… and I am happy that Greg has shown a bit more of her humanity here today…. She really is a smart, gentle, kind young lady who is trying to grow and develop into an adult that she perceives will be a good person and will do good things. The way she felt about getting a bit of a complement for her “word soup” shows a bit of her insecurity, and shows how she too is wanting approval and wanting to be liked. I think this panel was so, very, very good.
* * * *
Now, what happens next?
A) Do we see an actual image of ’ole Tom “Cat” Ferrell? Do we see him at lunch with Tiffany? I would like to see how Greg would illustrate him…. but I am betting Greg is going to keep him undrawn as a character.
B) I think it is more likely (like Mordy suggests) that we will only see the aftermath.
Sorry, Bernice, but the “p” in “psychopathic” is silent, thereby destroying your little train of alliteration. Or maybe Bernice actually pronounces the “p”— or Greg does.
guess that where they have their lunch date will give an indication of how much of Tom’s money he has left after Ann’s shenanigans. “Le Boef Patte’” or " In-and-Out Burger".
Regardless of both girls feelings on Ann, Bernice’s advice is not very useful or productive. Tiff asked if she should speak up, not what her father should do. Of course Tiff’s father should drop Ann. However, Bernice should consider if Tiff’s speaking up will actually accomplish that or just raise her fathers defenses, especially given her father cut her allowance before when she tried this. Bernice would be better off to start by asking Tiff what desired outcome she wants from this situation (BTW I never heard Ms. Phelps or anyone else ask Tiff what she wants in any situation – life, college etc. I’m not super impressed with Ms. Phelps, but did I miss something?) and then help Tiff find a way to frame her comments to achieve that goal.
It is sad that Tiffany thinks of Bernice as a friend. I hope Tiffany has a real friend, someone who actually cares about her. Bernice does not feel that way about Tiffany.
I think the real question here is what will happen at that lunch tomorrow. Tiff (and Greg) cleverly kept us in the dark as to who initiated the lunch; did Tom set up the lunch because he has news to convey to Tiffany? Wedding news, perhaps… or news that will affect her financially? Did Tiffany set it up, because she hadn’t seen him in a while anc missed him? Will Tom ruin the get-together by bringing Ann along… and then make it even worse by introducing her as his fiancée? (I’m assuming that if Tiffany had something up her sleeve, we’d have heard about it by now.)
They both hate Ann for something she did to them., Bernice admit her limit like student and this is the first time, if I remember correctly, that Tiffany asks Bernice for advice by calling her friend. This may be really good for both of them..
Wow, Bernice is the John Madden of psychologists. Oh, her dad should stop hanging around Ann? Really, that’s your big insight, Captain Obvious? Also, how does saying what her dad should do help Tiffany in the slightest? She already tried to get him to leave her, but he responded by cutting her allowance. So not only is Bernice’s suggestion something that isn’t in Tiffany’s power to even DO, it’s also something that’s been tried. And the worst part is, Bernice just took this as validation. Like when Miss Phelps/Mrs Fogarty smugly took credit for Tiffany’s figuring out her own issues.
All I can think here is that Evans must really hate therapists, and is working through his issues with them.
She considers Bernice a friend, Dez also probably. Bernice may be awkward and abrasive (at times) in an effort to apply her learned academic knowledge. But she means well and wants to help. Also, Tiff does not see Bernice as competition for any guy that she wants the way she views Luann.
Bernice is quite impressed with herself. She will end up telling parents to send their ADHD kids to a medical doctor for medication. Tiffany is actually pausing to think, and that’s a giant step for mankind. She will end up as the girlfriend and eventually wife of an up and coming politician. Cute and confident, she would make for great “optics.”
